Old Predictions? A Fun Read!
Submitted by admin on Tue, 02/21/2006 - 18:45.I received these in my email today from a friend. I've not attempted to verify these people actually said any of this, but they are sure fun to read. Overall, I'd say they should have cleaned their crystal ball.

Jinxed Serial Port/Torqued up Trackpad Rant
Submitted by BruceCyr on Mon, 01/09/2006 - 01:18.I've got a jinxed serial port -- every trackpad I put on it sooner or later begins acting up. It's probably static electricity. Generally I take the trackpad apart and stare at it, then for good luck I ground it on a water pipe. I don't know if it's the embarrassment of being stared at or the grounding therapy, but that seems to take care of it.
Now everything from the wall plugs are properly grounded, including the wall plugs themselves -- I've tested them. So I'm not sure how a serial port can accumulate a static electricity charge, if that's what it is. Someone has suggested the various fans might be a source.
"Build Your Own Computer"
Submitted by BruceCyr on Fri, 01/06/2006 - 13:51.This article:
http://overclockers.com/tips1219/
discusses components for a moderate system today and makes choices based on the author's priorities. Here is the actual construction process:
http://overclockers.com/tips1219/index05.asp
I think the motto is very apt:
"If you can hold a screwdriver, you can build your own computer."
Overall its a nice starting point for anyone who's ever wondered about building their own system. These kinds of summaries are kind of fun to debate, but I would caution against using any kind of Turtle Beach sound card based on my experience. And I think there's too much weight put on the display components unless the user, like the author, plays games.
