Roboform Review

What is Roboform?
By Skip Taylor 09/14/2007

Roboform is an automated password storage, form filler program with some real artificial intelligence! I've been using Roboform for quite a while and think of it as one of my favorite programs.

My use of password fillers started around 1997,1998 or 1999 when I found my "standard" password had been compromised. I realized that I needed a unique password to login at each site I visited. Wow! The realization of remembering that many passwords (hundreds!) really felt daunting. I looked around and found a program called Gator that would remember and fill in passwords for me. This was my introduction into spyware/adware! When I found out Gator was telling the world of my activities, it upset me. Not that I was doing anything wrong, it just felt like I had been robbed of my privacy! My computer also kept getting slower because of the graphic advertising (I was on dial-up). The solution was becoming a problem.

So the search began for a non-spying replacement that could import the existing password/site relationships I had gathered. I finally found Roboform and used it to import my existing information It didn't take long to become comfortable with using it. It's almost automatic!

I'm glad to have found Roboform. I've watched it grow with frequent updates to keep pace with changing browsers and website technology. All the updates are free as well!

Roboform also has a keyboard shortcut interface that can be turned on or off. I've never tried to use it with Speech Recognition, but I'm sure it would work.

The program's features go WAY beyond passwords though. I use the Safenote feature and the Password Generator a LOT these days. Safenotes lets you keep notes on whatever you want and they can be encrypted and password protected as well. The Password Generator let's you make some pretty gnarly passwords and what it makes is customizable.

Roboform can be used on a USB disk drive, PDA (Palm or Pocket PC) and Firefox, Internet Explorer or Netscape browsers. It's only for the Windows platform though and doesn't work with Opera. I guess the Opera folks didn't want to let loose of their inner secrets so someone could make an add-on password system.

It will run in Freeware mode indefinitely but will be limited to 10 entries.

Buy the Pro version, you'll never regret it! I know I don't!
