BlueParrot B1000-GTX with ViaVoice Advanced Edition 10.5
Submitted by Charles Devonshire on Sat, 09/09/2006 - 02:09.
I have been using the BlueParrot B1000-GTX System with Dragon Naturally Speaking Preferred Version 9 with no problems. However, when I try to set up a new user using ViaVoice Advanced Version 10.5, designating BlueParrot as the input device, I get the following message:
"Problem: A problem occurred while trying to use your audio card for recording.
Solution: Try restarting your system. If the problem still happens, there may be a problem with your audio device driver."
Restarting the computer does not help.
ViaVoice works fine with other microphone systems (e.g. wired handheld or headset with Andrea USB pod or Audigy soundcard).

The VXI BlueParrott B1000 uses a USB input. Try creating a new user profile designating a USB microphone.

Martin,
I can do that in DNS, but I don't seem to have that option in ViaVoice. I am not asked to specify the type of connection generically, or given the array of choices that I am given in DNS. To set up the microphone in ViaVoice I must go through the following steps:
First, I must designate the type of microphone. I am given only the following three choices to select from: “ Desk Set”, “Headset” or, “Other Microphone”.
Second, I must designate the sound input and output devices. The program limits my choice specifically to whatever soundcards it recognizes as being connected to the computer at the time: (e.g."AK5370”, SB Audigy”, or “VXI Talk Pro USB”).
Obviously, the choice I must make is the third one, but when I do, I get the results described in my previous post and, moreover, the ViaVoice program hangs and cannot be shut down even with Windows Task Manager. A must restart the computer to proceed.
As I said before, I do not experience a problem like this when setting up with the BlueParrott as a new user in DNS.
At this point, I am pretty well resigned to being attached to a wire when using ViaVoice.

I Beta tested the 10.5 ViaVoice release but the Bluetooth was not available at that time. It is possible, though unlikely, that ViaVoice will be updated by Nuance (the manufacturer of Dragon) in the future and Bluetooth and VXI USB support would be a good thing to do.
By the way, Dragon 9 has Bluetooth support. Not only is it easier to set up the Bluetooth microphone but the VXI Bluetooth works faster and even more accurately. I spoke to VXI about this and they do not know what Nuance did. Maybe Chuck Runquist knows or can find out?
