error when installing and using ms-speech recognizer v6.1 with office 2003
Hi, I tried installing microsoft speech recognizer v6.1 English from my microsoft office installation which is on the hard drive. I told it not to delete files after setup so if I wanted to install or uninstall things I wouldn't need the cd in the drive. I installed the engine and now whenever I go into speech control panel I get the error that it cannot create the speech engine please select a different microphone or audio device. When I hit ok the speech recognition page of the dialog comes up but I can't make a new profile or train the engine because all of the buttons are disabled. Speech recognition also shows up in regional and language settings. Also since doing a repair and also a re-install of microsoft office from add-remove programs I no longer have the speech option as part of my microsoft word 2003 tools menu. Oh and when exiting speech control panel I get an exception in shell32.dll and sapi.cpl files. I have both sapi5 runtimes and sapi4 runtimes installed on my computer. I also have two sapi4 and a bunch of sapi5 text to speech engines on my computer. A friend also gave me his copy of dragon v8.0 because he didn't want it anymore. But I wanted to try the microsoft engine v6.1 before using dragon. So what should I do to get the microsoft engine to work? or should I just forget about it, uninstall the microsoft engine and put dragon v8.0 in instead? You can contact me by email at jken...@kutztown.edu or on msn messenger at kenn...@hotmail.com
however you cannot use that hotmail address as an email because I only use it for my msn contact. You can also contact me on skype at

or on AOL instant messenger at

Thanks for any help with getting the speech recognition issue resolved.
Josh
