Whilst I have never seen
Whilst I have never seen this message on any installation, I would offer the following:-
1. You say that you "taken off firewall and antivirus". Did you prevent these starting up on re-booting by taking them out of the StartUp programmes?
2. Did you reboot before installation of VV?
3. What is the Windows XP patch that you are referring to?
Have a look at http://www.speechcomputing.com/node/649 where you will find some answers.

I had taken them of the
I had taken them of the start up programmes and rebooted it but it keeps on happening
(The XP patch to which you
(The XP patch to which you refer is only for ViaVoice Version 9. It is not for VV 10 or 10.5. )
That particular file where it stopped is 154 mb. I think is the main dictionary.
1. I suggest that you carefully clean the CD installation disc and try again.
2. An alternative would be to copy the entire disc to your hard disk and try the installation from the hard disk version.
3. If these fail, then I think you may have a corrupt installation disc and you should get a replacement. The way to find out is to try setting up VV on another computer.
4. As regards the firewall and anti-virus (which one do you use ?), you should make sure they are not running in the background even though you have taken them out of the start-up. You will find these amongst Services in Control Panel \ Administrative Tools. They should be disabled and then re-boot. Remember to re-enable them after you have completed the VV installation.
5. What are your computer specifications ie., the CPU speed (Mhz), type of processer (Intel Pentium 4 or Celeron or AMD [type]), amount of Ram (Mb), size of hard disk?
6. Have you used ViaVoice before?

I cleaned the cd and tried it but does not work.

Doesn't look like there is much hope
Andrea, you have a

Yep, Quentin hit the nail on
Yep, Quentin hit the nail on the head -- bad CD.
VV users ought to join together and chip in a nickel or two -- or the Brit equivalent -- to pay him for his stalwart service in supporting this, um . . ., not-so-recently updated product. I'm not aware of anyone who is doing more to keep it going.

Bruce, thanks for the vote, but you know very well that I'm Irish not Brit, and we use Euros.

"Should know". But maybe I
"Should know". But maybe I actually meant what I said, i.e., I was proposing a useless bit of assistance
On a coincidental trivia note, I was called today by She Who Shall Remain Nameless to provide details of her passport, which she was attempting to renew on-line. When I noted the substantial wad of Euros folded into the document, I was told that that wad was miniscule compared to the much bigger one secreted in a secret and by now forgotten location somewhere on the premises. Does anyone know of an on-line, shareware Euro locator I could download
If I do find it this century, I pledge to tithe a portion to the cause I've proposed
