Text-to-speech voice
Submitted by notnopc on Fri, 05/19/2006 - 21:02.
I'm working with DNS 8 preferred and I was wondering if he can change the text-to-speech voices. Due to some minor hearing loss is hard for me to understand the preinstalled voice, even when adjusting the pitch. Is there a place I can download other voices from?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

Chris,
First, there are no free downloads for additional TTS voices , and Nuance does not provide you with any additional TTS voices. You can purchase other RealSpeak voices from Nuance. However, they are very expensive and likely would not improve upon the problem that you already have.
Second, and again they are not free, you can purchase other voices from AT&T, as well as other sources. However, there is a snag here also. They must support SAPI 4.0a, and they are not easy to incorporate into DNS. Unless you are thoroughly knowledgeable with how the TTS voices are installed in DNS, I would strongly recommend against attempting adding additional voices. In addition, even if you are technically knowledgeable enough to be able to do this, these voices sometimes work and sometimes they do not work. In general, getting other voices and getting them to work properly is a crapshoot, and not worth the expense or the time and effort.

There are two Text-to-speech
There are two Text-to-speech programmes which you can download from the net – Text Aloud and Read Please. These both have voice variables.
The procedure to use is to simply copy what you have dictated or what you want read back and paste it into whichever of these programme you want to use, and they will then be read back to you with the chosen voice.
