RSS Feed Changes

I have added a module that changes the way the RSS feeds from this site works.

The main differences are that now there is full text instead of snippets and you will receive full text of the last 50 messages. If that seems too much (or not enough), let me know and I can change it here.

It also works with comments to allow you to get a message along with all it's comments. But there's a gotcha (Isn't there always one somewhere?). The comments have to be retrieved in a semi-manual process.

Here's the way it works:

For this example, we shall use http://www.speechcomputing.com/node/615 as our message that we want to retrieve and all comments to it. What you do is add /feed to the end and retrieve that as a separate RSS feed.

Thus the new feed URL becomes http://www.speechcomputing.com/node/615/feed

I've written to the author of the module to see if there's anything he can do to change this as I feel that to be a bit awkward at best. Another thing I've asked him is if he can put the original message author/date & time into the feed as well.

I'll update you on this as I get info.

I've discovered that one

I've discovered that one should never work on their website when very tired.

It appears that I missed the link after each message that automatically gives the feed url for comments to that message. I also missed the fact that the comments feed omits the original message, but does include the author's name in the title. I wish someone would get this right.

I'm going back to bed now. Laughing out loud

Something happened. I had

Something happened. I had just about given up on RSS because I wasn't getting many feeds, or I was getting them a week or so late. Didn't bother me because I subscribe to all forums and have email notification turned on.

But today about three dozen of the most recent ones popped up.

They are only sent when you have a program poll the site to request them. What program are you using for RSS?

It should have been working all along though. Let me know how this goes so I can keep up with it. I don't use the RSS right now as I'm on here often enough that it wouldn't be of benefit to me.

I'm using Thunderbird

I'm using Thunderbird 1.07.

I'll have to look at that

I'll have to look at that one. For now the RSS module has been disabled so we are back to basic RSS functionality.

It was disabled as it was interfering with post entry.
