microphone turns off after executing navigaion macros
Submitted by susan daum on Sun, 01/08/2006 - 03:22.
For quite a number of years I have used the macros written by Susan Fulton for ViaVoice, as well as some that I have written myself. With ViaVoice 10.5, the microphone often turns off after executing macros such as delete previous word or "SAVE this " and unpredictably with other macros that I have created. This behavior occurs both after initiating application macros and always active macros. Can anyone tell me how to stop making ViaVoice turn the microphone off under these conditions. it wouldn't be so bad if it just went to sleep, because I can wake it up without using my hands.
Thank you, Susan Daum

Aw, gee! I don't know anything about ViaVoice and will defer to Quentin's judgement, but given your recent history it sounds like the installation is still flaky.

It did it after the original installation -- which went smoothly.
Any Ideas on how to make the installation less "flaky" I've done everything i can think of.

I have now solved the problems with 2 Windows users and ViaVoice
The problem seems to be solved. I uninstalled McAfee anti virus program. I cleaned at the registry with JV16 power tools, and uninstalled and then reinstalled ViaVoice. It still hung and did not really import the macros, and it also did not create a new user. I copied all my old user files and imported my dictation and navigation macros. Strangely, it functioned poorly on the very first day I used it, but the next day it began to function as normal.
I have been able to dictate as I usually have and use all of my macros. It seems somewhat slower than before. Thank-you for all your help.

If not, then ignore my comment. Otherwise, it seems to me that a complete, fresh re-install might be needed, especially if ViaVoice allows you to save and resume old user profiles. Still, I have to defer to Quentin who seems about the most knowledgeable ViaVoice expert around these days.

PS: I'm really pleased with both TrendMicro AV (my machine) and NOD32 (wife's machine), but don't know how either does with ViaVoice. Also, as Quentin notes, ViaVoice at times seems to have installation problems with software firewalls, like ZoneAlarm.
Also, both Registry Mechanic (from the makers of NOD32) and the registry tools in SystemSuite 6 (which seem to me to have some parentage in common with Registry Mechanic, although either one is apt to find errors after the other gives up!) are both very good and have built-in rollback capabilities in case you get too aggressive.

Again, I have to say I have this same problem in XP with certain of the macros only, but not with Win 2000.
Because I use a Speechmike, with the mike controlled by one of the programmable buttons, it does not cause me any problem. However I can see it being a problem if you are using a head set. It is something I have not looked at, but if I get a chance, I will look at it in the future and post any positive findings.

I use Gnet, head set, also with phone button. But the macros, such as delete previous word or save this, always turn off mike, as do several macros which are only letters of the alphabet which help navigate menus.
