MS Speech consistently misrecognizing a "trained" word
Submitted by snsd on Mon, 01/02/2006 - 23:09.
Hi:
I have what I believe to be a good hardware set-up: P4 Centrino 1.6Ghz; 1GB RAM; Andrea ANC 700 mic... I am a newbie to SR but am having a challenge I'm hoping someone can help me with. My wife's name is Bev. I added it to the MS Speech engine and listened to my pronunciation. It sounds crystal clear. Almost without exception, when I say the word "Bev" "they have" is input. Now, I know that the letter "b" and "v" are very difficult to "hear" even for a human ear. Is there something I'm doing wrong - or is there a workaround for difficult words such as "Bev"?
Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to offer.
Dave

Try adding not a word, but a phrase of the words before and after Bev.
Martin
PS. Although I have not tried Bev on the new Microsoft Speech for Vista version 7 as yet, I suspect it will be more easily trainable.
Thanks Martin, I did as you
Thanks Martin,
I did as you suggested and when I speak the exact phrase that I had entered, recognition is perfect. However, if I do not use the exact phrase, it recognizes the word in the same manner as it did before the retraining. Maybe I'm misunderstanding.
I typed in the words "I think Bev looks great." I then recorded the words "I think Bev looks great." Is that what I was supposed to do?
One other quick question. Is DNS 8 preferred better at this kind of stuff?
Dave
I can suggest to you a
I can suggest to you a remedy for your problem that works with DNS 7 Preferred and upwards.
My wife is called Anne. DNS, not surprisingly, kept typing and.
The way around this problem is as follows. Use the written word/spoken word facility. I trained DNS to transcribe the spoken words " my spouse" as "Anne". It sounds odd, but it works. Whether programmes other than DNS have this facility, I cannot say.
Graham: It works perfectly
Graham:
It works perfectly in MS Speech as well. Thank-you so much!!!
