"New" Posts Aren't 'Always Marked for Me on Second and Subsequent Pages of a Thread

I mean the red star marking a new post. Its makes things trickier the longer the thread. So far I haven't seem this problem on first pages.
I'm using Firefox 1.5, but I've seen this dating from the beginning of this site with the earliest versions of Firefox.
Could be this is just my problem, but I thought I would bring it up to see if anyone else has also run into it.

It's there for me too. Apparently their "new post" logic doesn't take into account multiple pages. If it's on the 2nd or later pages, you don't get pointed to the new one.

Is it possible to set a numbering system on sequential comments in each thread? This might then get round the problem.
The only other way is to look at the impressed dates and times following the first new posting to see the additional posts. A bit slow, I think you'll admit.

I saw something at one time on the main site about this. It was dropped but I don't remember the reason. I'll have to look into that again.

Yes, but that could be sped up using the comment option selections. It will allow flat or threaded viewing and newest or oldest first. Exploring these options along with the 90 comments/page seems to make it quicker for me at least.
