SpamGourmet - a free service for disposable email addresses

SpamGourmet

Why would anyone want to use a free disposable email address?

That was what I wondered when I first saw this mentioned several years ago. I was actually introduced to this service by a subscriber to the VoiceGroup Speech Recognition list. I saw this really odd email address and went to see what it was all about. It turned out to be something that I would be using for a very long time!

For me, the problem with email has always been giving it out to a potential abuser. These days a lot of sites are selling people's email addresses for additional income.

So what if you want to sign up for a newsletter yet you don't want your email to be sold?

The answer is SpamGourmet. SpamGourmet will allow you to make up a valid email address on the fly - in seconds! You may then allow a specific number of uses (emails) from that person or you may make the site the only authorized sender. You first have to create an account at their site and verify the email address you have them forward your email to.

Here's an example use - Let's say I go to the Acme Website Newsletter Depot and decide to subscribe to one of their newsletters. There's a chance that I may not want to keep receiving this newsletter so I decide to use one of my disposable email addresses.

When asked for my email address, I enter acme.20.myspamgourmetaccountname@spamgourmet.com. What that means is I've created an account for acme that will allow up to 20 newsletters and they will be forwarded to my real email through the settings in my Spam Gourmet account, myspamgourmetaccountname in this example. Should I decide to keep the newsletter coming I can set the sending account or domain to be an exclusive sender, then set the remaining copies to zero (0) so anyone else using that address will be tossed in the trash and never heard from again.

There's a LOT more to this service, including a way to reply without giving out your real email address.

I've been using this for several years and love it. My current stats are: 6,362 emails forwarded, 305,149 emails eaten with 382 disposable addresses.

As I said above there is absolutely NO CHARGE for this service!

Go take a look at SpamGourmet, I don't think you'll regret it!

SpamGourmet - a free service

Hey, Thanks, Skip(?)!

I paid for a disposable email address facility from mailshell.com some time ago ($22/year for 5 years), but its nice to find a free version. This way I can use my local email client rather than the more cumbersome web-based mailshell system.

Still, I like the web-based email systems, like Yahoo, Google, Mailshell, etc., as a repository for things like receipts, passwords, etc.
