Installation help needed

Hello everyone,
My friend is having a back problem (can't move out of bed) and urges
to start working on her monography.
She's trying to install "Via Voice Pro USB Edition Release 9.0" but
her PC (running Windows XP Pro) shuts the installation before it's
completed.
She's been trying for days and has already disableled antivirus and
firewall but it simple doesn't install.
We'll deeply appreciate any help. Please help!

In order to install and run ViaVoice 9 on either Windows XP Home or Professional, it is necessary to download the Windows XP patch. This can be obtained here:

She got the patch from ftp://ftp.scansoft.com/pub/updates/viavoice/vv9cs1...
(we are Brazilians)
But unfortunately the patch won't work if Via Voice is not installed.
She's thinking of replacing WinXP Pro for Win2000. Would this solve the problem?
Any other tip, please let me know.

I have never used VV 9 in either Win 2000 or XP. I only used it in Win 98.
Would it not be worth your friend's while to get VV 10 Pro USB. It is not that expensive, and it should be possible to transfer the existing user VV 9 files.
I note you state that she is using the Brazilian patch. You do not state what her original language version is. It may well be that the VV 9 that she is using is not compatible with the version of XP Pro that she has.

It seems her problem will soon be solved.
Her friends from work contacted IBM Brasil, and although they no longer produce/deal Via Voice, she's getting the newest version as a gift from them.
Her coleagues also found that an IBM representative works right there (at PETROBRÁS) and this guy is going to her home tomorrow to help her with the installation.
Looks like she'll finish her monography in time.
She was trying to install the Portuguese (Brazilian version).
Others we contacted are using the same version in XP and have no trouble.
Let's see what the IBM guy will do tomorrow.
