RSS Feed in Mozilla Thunderbird

Setting this up is easy but not intuitive.

Open a browser window with www.speechcomputing.com

Open Mozilla Thunderbird

In Thunderbird, Click on File > New > Account and select RSS News and Blogs

That puts a "News and Blogs" on your folder list on the left side of the Thunderbird window.

HIghlight New and Blogs, and select Manage Subscriptions from the window that opens.

YOu will now have a blank window with Add, Edit and Delete buttons. Select the Add button and bring up the next window with the cursor on the "Feed URL" input box.

Now, go back to www.speechcomputing.com in your browser window. Find the orange "XML" button under "Syndicate" on the lower right side of the screen. RIGHT-click that button and select "Copy Link Location."

Go back to the "Feed URL" input box and past that link in. Then click "OK" and you see the messages start to download.

Now, you should see a new folder under News and Blogs called Speech Computing where all the message should be.

Now, you can just leave Thunderbird open and forum messages will come in just like email.

Easy login

For automatic login with encrypted password storage try Mobipassword, a program I wouldn't do without. I've been using it for about two years.

bloglines

I just added speechcomputing.com RSS by going to the web portal?

http://www.bloglines.com

Pretty sweet in I can just use a web browser to manage blogs.

Off topic but related, I switched my homepage to:

Thanks!

Of course the XML button is now in the upper right, but your instructions were perfect, thanks. Now I can receive all the forum entries in T-bird!

RSS Feed in Thunderbird

Despite the fact I posted the method of getting an RSS feed in Thunderbird, now I am having trouble with it.

For several days, Thunderbird didn't retrieve any messages for me. Tonight, opening Thunderbird for the second time this evening, it abruptly pulled down a dozen new messages, with dates as far back as 6/19.

Anyone else having this problem?
