Mac vs. PC for ViaVoice?

I need to buy a new laptop and am deciding between a Mac and a PC. I am a ViaVoice user with voice data on both a Mac OS 9 (a very old version of ViaVoice 2.0) and a PC (I have the very most recent version of ViaVoice that I obtained a couple months ago). I have had a lot more trouble with ViaVoice crashing on the PC than the Mac.

Question 1: Are there any Mac ViaVoice experts out there?

Question 2: Which kind of computer tends to run ViaVoice better: Mac OS X or PC with Windows? Feedback appreciated. Thanks very much.

I do have questions about how well the backup is working on my Mac. I know how to backup and restore on a PC, but file names do not correlate on a Mac. I cannot locate my user folder, for example, except within a backup (I use the user management backup script). Thanks!

Suzanne

I am not a Mac user, but I

I am not a Mac user, but I will comment on PCs. In all the years that I have used VV, it has never caused a crash. Any crashes which I have had have been Windows-based problems. I have never had a crash in Windows 2000, but have in XP on my laptop. I know from having spoken to many Mac users that they are much happier with Macs than PCs. The only thing they lament is the lack of programme availability due to the popularity of PCs. It might be worth having a search in the archives of Via-...@yahoo.com to see if there have been any comments, good or bad, about VV for Mac. I note that ScanSoft are still selling VV for Mac OS X V3 for £99.99 (stg.) (on the UK site). I do not know what the situation is on the US site, so somebody must be buying it or else they're selling off old stock. As far as I'm aware, IBM have ceased developing the Mac version, and I have no idea what quality of the available version is. Quentin
