Vocab lost after restore
Submitted by makman on Mon, 08/29/2005 - 20:33.
I just reformatted my drive and reinstalled everything, including VV 10 Pro. I restored my backup user, but most of the added vocab is missing. I have a backup of my drive from before the reformat, and have access to the VV directory.
Does anyone know if my words can be added in by copying certain files?
Thanks,
Mitch

If you have access to the
If you have access to the backup VV directory, then I would suggest that you copy your backup named user folder and paste it into C: \ Program Files \ ViaVoice \ Users. Then go to Control Panel \ IBM ViaVoice Options, and select your user name as the default, and re-set all your preferences.
Then open ViaVoice. You may get the pop-ups telling you about the speech recogniser not recognising your language. Simply click OK on each of the pop-ups until they disappear. Then restart ViaVoice. Hopefully this will restore your trained words.
If it does not, proceed to analyse your documents and go through the painful process of re-training the unknown words.

That did not work. I started
That did not work. I started looking at the files in my current user directory. I looked at the ones that were newest, since I had added some words. I found 2 that had my added words, C98173US.ADD and EN_US.ADP. The first is a text file, the other isn't, but I could see some of the words. I then found these files in my backup folder (the one made with my backup program, not the viavoice user backup). I copied the old ones to my current user, and my vocab is back!
Thanks,
