Macro, phrases, and volcabulary management question!!! Please help!!!!

Hi, All.

I have been using IBM ViaVoice for some time now. I tend to like it. However, I've ran into a few problems. Each and every time I say the word 'question' I get 'Q.' I am a court reporter and use IBM ViaVoice for transcription. I went into my "Manage Vocabulary" and deleted the recorded phrase "question = Q." However, even though I deleted it, it still comes up as Q. when I say "question." I don't want it to do that. Why does it keep doing that? Also, I've deleted other phrases and macros out of my "Manage Vocabulary." After I shut down ViaVoice and turn it back on, the phrases and macros that I deleted out of my "Manage Vocabulary" reappears as if I never deleted them. Has anyone else had this problem? What can I do to get rid of them permanently?

Also, I'm having problem with translation on words such as: it's and that's. Any advice on how to correct that?

Thanks so much for your time!
Douglas

Did you check your Dictation

Did you check your Dictation Macros to see if you have this particular macro. Check that first. If it is there, simply delete it.

It might also be worth your while checking the navigation macros to see did it get in there as well. Again delete it if it is there.

Now see if the problem still exists.

If it does, the next thing to try will be to go to your ViaVoice user folder, go to the ADD file, open it with Word Pad (don't forget to uncheck the box "Always use the selected programme to open this kind of file"). Select All and copy. Then close that file without saving changes. Go to Microsoft Word and Paste. On the menu bar click on Table and then click on Sort. In that pop up menu just click OK, and the text should appear in alphabetical order. Look for "question" and " Q". If you do not find them, then they're not in your custom dictionary.

My next suggestion is that you uninstall ViaVoice and reinstall it.

1. Using My Computer or Windows Explorer, for ViaVoice 10.5 go to C: \ Documents and Settings \ [your user name] \ Applications \ IBM \ ViaVoice \ Users \ [your user folder]. Copy your user folder to a safe place on your hard disc. For ViaVoice 8,9 & 10 go to C: \ Program Files \ ViaVoice \ Users \ [your user folder]. Copy your user folder to a safe place on your hard disc.

2. Open ViaVoice, go to Tools \ Work with Dictation Macros \ Edit \ Select All. Then click on File \ Export, and export your macros to a safe place on hard disk.

3. Go to the Navigation Macros \ File \ Export, and export your personally made macros to a safe place on hard disk.

4. Close ViaVoice and reboot. Uninstall VV using Control Panel Add Remove Programs. Reboot.

5. Within your firewall and anti-virus programmes, make sure they do not restart on booting up.

6. Run msconfig, and uncheck firewall and anti-virus programs. Also uncheck any programme which allows your wireless connection to start up automatically.

7. Explore the ViaVoice installation CD, and you will see Support \ ViaClean. Hit ViaClean and let it clean out all ViaVoice and your user files.

8. Using a Registry cleaners such as RegScrubXP or Registry Mechanic, clean out all unwanted Registry entries. Reboot.

9. Do a clean installation of ViaVoice 10.5. Do not start up when installation is complete.

10. Go to your user backup folder saved on your hard disk. Copy it and paste it in , for ViaVoice 10.5 go to C: \ Documents and Settings \ [your user name] \ Applications \ IBM \ ViaVoice \ Users \ [your user folder]. and for ViaVoice 8,9 & 10 go to C: \ Program Files \ ViaVoice \ Users \ [your user folder].

11. Go to Control Panel \ IBM ViaVoice Options. Click on User, and select your user folder and apply.

12. Whilst you're in there, set up all your other preferences in Voice, Command Sets, Direct Dictation and etc. In Command Sets, make sure that Word Dictation and Word Natural Commands are checked. I do not check Active Programs since I found that on doing this, my computer slowed up. (This just may be my computer. ) I found that I do not need this facility.

13. Apply all changes and close.

14. Now open ViaVoice. You may get messages regarding the speech recogniser not recognising the language or some similar objection to opening. Just click OK on each of the pop-ups that appear. When these all disappear, open ViaVoice. It will find your user with no problem.

15. Set up your audio at this stage.

16. Now you will want to import your macros. Simply reverse the exporting procedure.

17. Whilst you're in the navigation macros, delete any unwanted programmes that you do not use, and this will save resources. For example And 10.5 you will find Outlook Express 5 and 6. Delete the macros for the one you do not use.

You are now up and running again.

I have had to do this a few times when my XP SP 2 did funny things to ViaVoice after loading new programmes.
