Dragon Not Writing into a program

I use Dragon Pro in all my programs except one, in both Word, WordPerfect, and my custom CAT programs. The text will not drop down into the screen with that program. Is there a setting in Dragon or in my computer which will allow "writing into a non-traditional screen" with this one program? This was a problem I had a long time ago with one of my programs and tech support changed some things, and I don't know what, and it works great now.

A simple work around is to use the Dictation Box built into Dragon. Simply put the cursor in the nonstandard text box, one that is not accepting text right now, and issue the command, "Show dictation box." You will be able to dictate and correct in the dictation box and when finished simply transfer text into the nonstandard box.

I opened the Dragon Dictation box using the toolbar, and it opened, but I spoke into it and it wouldn't transfer to the screen in my program. Is using a voice command and clicking on the toolbar different?

Is it possible your CAT programs are medical applications? Or what?

No, they are court reporting
No, they are court reporting programs.
As Marty says, when you are
As Marty says, when you are in the programme where you want to dictate (and therefore have focus) simply say "Show dictation box", it should appear and you can then dictate and transfer text as you like.
BTW what is your OS and exactly which version of DNS are you using (e.g. Pro 10.1, 9.5)?

It may help to know if the
It may help to know if the program you wish to send text to has "focus". Basically that means indicating to the computer where you want the text to go. Once there, say "Open Dictation Box" and dictate.
When you are done, just say "Click Transfer" and it should copy/paste your dictation into the program at the point where you moved the "focus". I've never used the toolbar for this only by voice command.
May we know which program this is? Others may be using it and know more about that particular system then we do as this is a pretty wide interest User Forum.
Dragon not writing into program

I tried opening the CAT program first rather than opening Dragon first. Then, I opened Dragon and opened Dictation Box. The transfer feature only worked to transfer from Dictation Box to Dragon Pad. Once in Dragon Pad, I could copy and paste the words into the CAT program using the commands for copy and paste from the CAT program. The program is AristoCAT court reporting translation software. I have written the owner and programmer who wrote the program, and asked him to find out why this is happening. No response yet. I was hoping to get some Dragon info to tell him.

Normally you want to have Dragon going first then the program you want to run.
I wonder what language AristoCAT is written in? If it's JAVA then you may need their accessibility bridge to get it to work.

You should be able to copy in the Dictation Box. Just say, "Select all," and then, "Copy." Then change focus to your CAT program and say, "Paste."

Martin's recommendation is essentially correct but that process would be more applicable for other applications such as DragonPad, WordPad, Microsoft Word etc. It shouldn't be necessary to go to those extremes when using the Dictation Box because deploying the Dictation Box, from within your CAT application, should establish a link to DNS 10, and by default, all of your Dictation Box dictation should be automatically copied to the clipboard when you say “Transfer” to transfer your text from the Dictation Box to the CAT application. It should not be necessary to say “select all”, “copy that”, move the focus back to the CAT application and say “paste that”. These 4 steps are combined by the NaturallySpeaking “Transfer” command.
Additional note to Martin... The “Copy” and “Paste” commands you refer to do not exist in NaturallySpeaking. However those commands are native to KnowBrainer 2008. It is sometimes easy to forget where NaturallySpeaking leaves off and KnowBrainer begins, when running both applications. The NaturallySpeaking commands you were referring to are “copy that” and “paste that”.

KnowBrainer, as a Gold Certified Nuance dealer missed the boat on this. In the Dictation box is a Settings button. Within this you can set the Dictation Box to Copy, Paste and hold text in the clipboard when the Dictaion Box is closed.

Mary,
If Dragon pad is open, try closing it to see if the dictation box will translate directly into AristoCAT. BTW, I don't think the AristoCAT programmer should be expected to know anything about DNS' misbehavior.
