Using front or rear USB ports affects sound quality, even with sound pods

I am using the Olympus ME-31 directional desktop microphone with a USB sound pod and I have noticed that when the sound pod is plugged into the USB ports in the rear of the desktop computer, I get significantly worse accuracy, which is borne out by the audio tests that show a high level of ambient noise across the entire frequency spectrum. On the other hand, when I plug the sound pod into the USB port on the front of the computer, everything works a lot better.

The downside is the lot of tangled wires in front of the computer instead of in the back. Is there some kind of isolation unit I can use so that I can continue to plug the USB sound pod into the back of the computer? I have tried this with two different sound pods, by the way, Andrea and Buddy, and they both exhibit the same effect. Furthermore, I have also experimented with replacing the Olympus microphone with another microphone, but I also get a similar effect, although it is not as pronounced as with the Olympus microphone.

Any advice appreciated.

That's the Exact Opposite of What We Would Normally Recommend

Your results are just the opposite of what should be occurring and what we recommend. We normally recommend NEVER using front or side desktop computer USB ports because they are too far removed from the motherboard and typically connected by 2 feet of wire which in some cases, isn't even shielded. We wonder if perhaps you managed to make a better connection because you are plugging into USB channel A on the front of your computer and channel B on the rear. We recommend retesting but switching sides on the back of your computer.

Chuck Runquist and I were discussing this recently. Although the problem, as mentioned by Knowbrainer, with noisy USB ports is most often exhibited in front USB ports, manufacturers often added extra USB ports in the rear that are not grounded properly. I suggest you try alternate USB ports in the rear as you're likely to find one which does not exhibit the problem of electronic interference.
