DNS microphone won't turn on in new cmputer

Hi,

there was a thread last year which pertained to the problem I have,a nd it was not resolved.: http://www.speechcomputing.com/node/1763 DNS microphone problem!!
Submitted by kalahari on Thu, 02/07/2008 - 18:12.

new Vostro laptop, and installed my DNS 9 successfully. Using a Plantronics USB mic, and directed DNS to use it rather than the Realtek. DNS will not let me do anything until the new user profile is filled out, but the microphone is OFF, will not turn on, and everything is grayed out in the drop down boxes. It insists I do a new user profile, but I can't turn on the mic! Yes, the USB mic works, on my old laptop. Yes, DNS works well in my old laptop. I sat online with Dell and checked mic, volume controls, etc on new laptop and everything is fine. I wondered if it is that I have to buy a new DNS for the new laptop, but I am a single user simply trying to put DNS on the new laptop. Do not want to turn it off in the old computer till I know I have it running in the new one!

Can you give me some help?

Many thanks,

Diane

The licensing scheme for Dragon NaturallySpeaking allows you to install the software on multiple computers if you or a family member are the only user(s).

Have you tried running an Audio Setup Wizard after opening your user training profile? You do this from Tools on the Dragon Bar. Next select, Accuracy Center. Then select Check your audio settings. If this allows you to setup the USB microphone and use it, just have the USB microphone connected to the computer when Dragon starts.

I believe the above procedure worked for version 9 but you may need the 9.5 update which you should have anyway. CLICK HERE to go to the page to find your edition (Preferred, Professional, etc.). Although it says for Vista, the update works for XP as well.

This is how

You do not have to purchase an additional license of DNS and this is how NaturallySpeaking is supposed to behave. The microphone will be in the off position but the Audio Setup Wizard will be able to hear your training. You just need to complete your training or better yet, copy your old user profile from your other computer to this computer. Most of the menu items are also going to be grayed out until you have completely trained your user profile on the new computer.

If you wish to create a new user profile simply click "Prepare User for Dictation", under the NaturallySpeaking menu and follow the prompts.
