Importing macro commands to FrameMaker fails in 10.1 with workaround
I upgraded to Dragon 10.1 and FrameMaker 7.1 from Dragon 9.5 and FrameMaker 7. After importing my macros, none of the FrameMaker macros worked. I noticed the following pattern:
1. If I created a new macro in the Command Browser with FrameMaker open, FrameMaker was listed in the Application dropdown only once.
2. If I opened an existing macro and looked at the Application dropdown, FrameMaker was displayed twice.
3. Deleting the macro and re-creating it worked. This worked by is impractical for the number of macros I have. Here's a less intensive workaround:
SOLUTION: Edit each macro and click the Browse button to select the FrameMaker executable. It's still tedious but you don't have to re-create each macro.
I haven't finished them all, so if there is an easier solution I'm interested.

How about using "Manage"?
ktomlinson,
It seems like you ought to be able to use the "Manage" area of the Command Browser to change all of the commands at once. Open the Command Browser, switch to "Manage Mode," and check the box for your FrameMaker commands. Click Edit Properties, change the application to the new version of FrameMaker, and click Save.
I didn't try this, but it seems like it ought to work.
By the way, does FrameMaker work any better regarding dictation? The last time I tried, it was pretty bad!

Worked like a charm!
Hi Russ,
Great suggestion. It worked beautifully. This is very handy because it turns out my other "non-supported" product macros had the same problem.
Regarding FrameMaker 7.0 and 7.1 and DNS Versions 8-9.5, menu and dialog selections certainly work better than Lotus Notes which Nuance supports. Basically, you can dictate a phrase and then edit it once (with 8-9.5 I could sometimes do two edits if I selected backwards. I need to test this with 10.1). The edit buffer is lost after that so you can't select a particular word in another paragraph the way you can in Word. Of course, you can move forward or backward "n" words as needed, select it/them, and correct that way. This behavior is the same limitation as in Notes, so if you have to use these products you get used to it.
Selecting across paragraph boundaries (e.g., "delete next 3 lines") never works properly.
Step-by-step macros work fine to apply formatting, conditionalization, and other things Dragon can't do. In fact, they are quite fast. Moving within tables can be challenging using voice commands, but macros for the common navigational shortcuts work. Once in a cell, the basic editing and selecting works OK. I only ran into one bizarre bug between a macro and I think it was a checkbox in the Generate Cross References dialog.
Hope this extra information is of interest to someone.
Thanks again, Russ.
