I'm sure hoping so because I would really like to find a US distribtor of a Bluetooth headset that would work with DNS and my Nextel phone...

Bluetooth

TCAT,

I am in Europe on business/pleasure till the 23rd.

The Sony Bluetooth being sold in the UK is sort of OK, but is below the Andrea ANC and VXI TalkPro microphones for SR accuracy due to so so noise cancelling.

Oh well. I was hoping to have a new magic trick for my next CA CompTIA bootcamp. I guess I'll just have to razzle/dazzle them with my old usb mike and Dragon 8.1 (It would have been cool however Eye-wink

Wireless headsets,

Wireless headsets,

I have just been to a demonstration of new wireless Bluetooth headset which has been developed by an UK company called Xovox Communications about 14 weeks ago. They call it X Communicator 3. I understand that it is developed in conjunction with Sony. They claim it is better than the Sennheiser, or any other Bluetooth headset.

I was very impressed with this demonstration, and the accuracy using DNS 8. (I was assured that it will work with ViaVoice as well.)

It costs £125 sterling, and I was informed that they are barely able to keep up with very high demand.

It can be seen at http://www.xovoxcommunications.com/products/xcommu....

It consists of a very light headset (clipped to the ear which appeared to be quite comfortable) and an USB transmitter/sound card.

I was amazed at the accuracy and speed of the demonstration into a laptop. .

Marty, have a look at this and let us have your evaluation. Richards, even your wife might let you have a go!

I have to say that I know nothing about Xovox Communications having only been with them for about 20 minutes, but they have linked up with a company in Ireland that supplies a complete office management system, which includes DNS 8 Professional, with office network links, and delegated correction.

Bluetooth Wireless

Quentin,

We know about it. Michael is contacting Xovox. A reliable UK source has told us the unit is not a good noise rejector and there have been comfort issues.

Wireless Headsets

We have been using (and selling) the X-Communicator 3 for some time now (http://www.itspeaking.com/speech-product.asp?prod=...).
It does work pretty well with NaturallySpeaking but is certainly not more accurate than the Sennheiser Headset or the VXi TalkPro range or Andrea ANC 700/750.
Noise rejection is also below the above microphones.
The over ear design is comfortable for short term use but some users find the cartilage above the ear becomes sore after prolonged use.
The real work in avoiding the usual Bluetooth compression problems when used with SR is done by a specially designed USB "dongle" - the Sony Ericsson Akono Bluetooth headset was, I understand, chosen as being a particularly good model.
The bottom line is that if you wish to be un-wired this is a workable solution - not quite as accurate as the best headsets - but still pretty good in not too noisy environments. Price is excellent and you get a Bluetooth cell phone headset in the bargain.
US configuration is available and an updated version should be "hitting the streets" about now.
