Preparing Content Offline

Speech Computing's built-in form-based content editing approach is fine for many applications, but if you have a lot of text to create, or you wish to convert existing content, or if you are using a specialized content type such as a blog, it may be more convenient to use other approaches to enter content.

Preparing your content offline means using familiar software on your computer to create or edit content before submitting it to Speech Computing. This allows you to use Speech Recognition software at your end to 'speak' it in and then just post it to the site.

Speech Computing includes functionality for "blogging"--creating "blogs" or web-based journals. You should be able to input and edit content using one of a number of desktop "blog" software packages. These allow you to simply type in content, hit a "post" button, and have your content automatically loaded onto your site.

In fact, blogging software can be used for more than blogs--it can allow you to post content easily and quickly to your blog, to create a story or post to a forum. The downside is that you still have to visit the website to see comments.

One such program is w.bloggar a freeware. Instructions for configuring it for Speech Computing is here.

The only thing I find a bit limiting on it is the category drop-down is a bit crowded leaving off most of the actual forum names. If you select anything in the category window you may then use the "..." button to the right of it. Problem is that anything you choose there is in addition to your original selection! Talk about crossposting! To keep from crossposting you would have to "Unselect" what you selected. Perhaps if a few people prod the developer he would fix this!

If you know of other similar software it might be a good idea to tell all of us!

If you are wondering if the bloggerapi is enabled here at Speech Computing, the answer is no. Due to hacking attempts it's been disabled for now.
