Word 2003

I am using Via Voice 10.5. Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 3. When I go into Word 2003 and try dictating, nothing happens and I get a message that it can't understand what I am saying. I can dictate into Speech Pad with no problem, but I am at a loss to why Word is not working. If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate it.

I was wondering whether there is an upgrade I am missing on Word so this will work.

Also, is there a way to dictate in Via Voice when you say one thousand that it will comd out 1,000 instead of 1000? Same for one thousand two hundred, it writes 1200 instead of 1,200. For larger numbers is puts in the comma, but I can't get it to do it with 1,000.

Thank you.

VV and Word 2003

I use VV10 and had to uninstall Word 2003 as it was not compatible. Word 2000 works perfectly.
Re dictating numbers, that is a bugbear of mine too. All the more irritating when you dictate £1,000 and it does put in the comma. I would be interested to hear any solution for this too.

Re-Enabling the Microsoft Word ViaVoice Plug-In

The problem was that the Microsoft Word ViaVoice plug-in was ejected. We sent MelessaL a step-by-step e-mail on re-enabling the plug-in and she appears to be up and running.

Melissa and Chumpy,

Melissa and Chumpy,

When installing ViaVoice, did you click on the check box to install Outlook Support? If you did not, I would suggest a reinstall, and make sure that you click check box. It should then support Word 2003.

Another method is to go in to User Options \ ViaVoice Options, hit the Command Sets tab, and make sure that the check box is ticked beside Outlook Natural Commands, Word Dictation and Word Natural Commands.

Of course it is possible that SP3 is causing a problem. I have no problem with SP3 with Word 1997 (I never upgraded because Word 1997 does everything I need).

As regards the numbers problem, this is a bit of an annoyance. My method is to use the Correction Box. When I want 1000, that is what I get if I dictate that as a word. I have now got into the habit of saying one, turning the microphone off, moving to the space after one, and then dictate 1000, and then select 1000, it is usually in words at No. 1 in the Correction Box, and I can say "pick one". I do the same for hundred. However I use the mouse rather than the voice to carry out this operation, because it is quicker! I agree it is a bit of the pain, but for some odd reason ViaVoice chooses the numerals instead of the words. It is supposed to do the opposite!

I just remembered that I

I just remembered that I installed ViaVoice 10.5 in my wife's Dell new Celeron XP SP3 laptop about three weeks ago. She has Word 2003 pre-installed.

Having installed VV, installed a copy of my voice files from Documents and Settings in my current computer, and checked the various boxes in the Command Sets, I proceeded to dictate without any problem. However I was merely testing it, and had not installed any of my navigation macros, so I have no idea how it will perform. It did, however, recognise the dictation macros contained in the voice file folder.

I have to say that I did not like Word 2003 with all its animations, sidebars and etc., and it just made me determined to stick to Word 97, in which my Normal Template is now 503 Kb, so you can imagine how many macros, AutoText and toolbar shortcuts I have.

In any case my 170 or so ViaVoice macros for Word (mostly based on keystroke combinations) would take me too long to reset up in any other version of Word, and I have neither the time or inclination to do this.

Although I don't use VV 10.5

Although I don't use VV 10.5 with MS Word, I heard it works with Word 2003 but VV10 does not so you should be okay. When you click "User Options" and then the "Direct Dictation" tab, is Word 2003 checked?

I also get 1000 or 2000 instead of 1,000 or 2,000. Sorry but I don't know any way around that. I've only been using VV a few months.

On examining the setup disc,

On examining the setup disc, I came across the Redist folder, and the Microsoft office converter pack called OCONVPCK.EXE. If you open this, it should install the converter pack which will enable you to use Word 2003. This presumably is the plug-in that KnowBrainer wrote about.
