Voice Power: getting a Send to <folder> to work in Outlook XP on Exchange Server

I am using VoicePower on a ThinkPad WinXP SP2. I can't get the Voice Shortcut to work right.  I may not be configuring the command properly.

My inbox looks like this literally: Mailbox - Schwartz, Stanley N MD

and the child folder I wish to move mail into is _Processed Mail (yes, with the underscore to put it at the top of the folder list)

So I tried several combinations in the Edit VoiceShortcuts window including: _Processed Mail and Mailbox - Schwartz, Stanley N MD>_Processed Mail

I gave the folder a spoken name of "Process" However, saying "send to process" does nothing. Any advice about enabling these commands on an exchange-based Outlook? I don't think I have the format right Stan

Stan,

Are you attempting to access Microsoft Outlook on the exchange server (i.e., Webmail)? If so, neither VoicePower nor DNS will work properly. Webmail is simply not Select-and-Say enabled and many of the commands in both DNS and VoicePower will not work properly, if at all, when accessing Outlook on the Internet via webmail.

You will have to bring your exchange server accounts into your local Microsoft Outlook. DNS and VoicePower work properly under that condition. I use it that way all the time and it works fine. But I doubt seriously that you can get it to work in the Webmail version of Outlook. Sorry, you're just out of luck here. It's not a VoicePower or DNS problem. It's a Microsoft Exchange Server problem (Webmail).

I am not using the web-based Outlook but the regular Microsoft office Outlook. I included that in the title to be sure some would did not think I was using a freestanding Outlook from home, for example.

Because the folder I want to use is a child of my exchange-based inbox, I thought configuration might be different than when using Outlook freestanding.

Hi Stan,

You ran into two problems: You can't have folders and subfolders that start with the same prefix (e.g., "_Processed") because Outlook won't be able to consistently find the folders. This is documented in the Section 2 of the "Show Voice Shortcuts Lesson."

The second problem is an undocumented feature Smiling
You can't put hyphens in the names of the folders within VoicePower. You don't have to rename your folder, just give VoicePower the name of the folder up to the hyphen (e.g., _Processed Mail and Mailbox).

Ron

Thanks, Ron I understand

Thanks, Ron

I understand your second paragraph but not the first. By prefix, I presume you mean the underscore character. I believe that's the only folder or subfolder in which I use the underscore.

Stan

Folders can have an

Folders can have an underscore character in commmon but make certain that no folder is a partial name of a second folder. For example, don't have folders named: "sample," "sample1" and "sample2" because a command to move an e-mail to "sample"1 or "sample2" won't work consistently since "sample" is common to all three names.
