DNS9.5 Prof. and Lotus Notes <= 8: Any experiences - why is the text recognized typed so slow?
Submitted by udo on Sun, 06/29/2008 - 11:23.
Hello again,
anybody using Lotus Notes <= 8? My main problem is that the text recognized is typed so
slow that using DNS makes no sense. I have had the same problem with Thunderbird, but
that behaviour disappered one day. At the moment I'm using the diction window, but that's
of course no solution. Any other hints concerning DNS and Lotus Notes?
Thanks and greetings
Udo

DNS dictation speed and Lotus Notes

Udo,
First, dictating into Lotus Notes, any version, is dictating into a nonstandard window. That means basically that you have no Select-and-Say capability and getting around some of the quirks of Lotus Notes requires that you use the Natural Language Commands provided in the Command Browser under Lotus Notes.
Second, the speed of display of text in Lotus Notes is not a problem associated with DNS. The problem is that you either have something running in the background that is interfering with your dictation, or you have a setting in Lotus Notes that's causing DNS to take an extra long amount of time to recognize your dictation. Either way, DNS is only a player in the game, not the cause. It could also be part of the problem with the fact that dictating into Lotus Notes is dictating into a nonstandard window. However, I have never found any version of Lotus Notes to be a particular problem with regard to speed of the display of dictation all the way from version 6 right on up through version 9.5. Something else is causing the problem.

Dragon Pro 9.5 and NOTES 8
Hi, I must agree with UDO. Dragon Pro 9.5 on XP Pro does not like Notes 8 at all. There are no commands that work for NOTES 8. They have to be created using the keyboard shortcuts. Dictation is horrible.
I have only just begun investigating this before my organisation moves entirely to Notes 8.
It's not looking good.

As far as I can recall, James Richards uses Lotus Notes. He certainly was using it with ViaVoice, and he may well now be using it with DNS.
He may still be lurking on this site, but you should certainly get a response from him on the ms-speech group - http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/ms-speech/messa... - where he does irregularly appear. (Ms-speech group has now become more devoted to Vista WSR.)
