Command Browser troubles

Has anyone experienced problems with the Command Browser locking up and causing Dragon to terminate abruptly? I just started having problems yesterday with trying to edit a command in the Command Browser or add a new command. The Command Browser opens fine, but does not allow me to view any of my old commands, it just clocks when I try to Edit anything. And when I try saying "add new command", Dragon terminates completely. However, I don't have any problems running any of the commands that have already been added to the system. I have tried to reinstall Dragon and also use different user files created before I started having problems, but neither has corrected the problem.

I am using Dragon professional 9.5 on a Dell Latitude D630 laptop running Windows XP

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Cindy

Switch to Your Backup MyCmds.Dat File

Suggestions:

1. Copy your backup MyCmds.dat file, from your personal user backup folder to your personal current folder. With a little bit of luck, your backup MyCmds.dat file may not be corrupted.

2. If #1 doesn't work, open your Command Browser and attempt to delete the last command you created. You may have an error in your last command which can prevent the Command Browser from accepting additional commands.

3. If #2 doesn't work, switch to a previous user profile (hopefully one that is a little older than your backup user profile).

Before you do that

You definitely want to make a copy of your mycmds.dat file from your current folder and put it somewhere safe.

Another idea is, after you make the copy, delete your mycmds.dat file (while your NaturallySpeaking user is not open). Then, when you start NaturallySpeaking, it will create a fresh mycmds.dat file (without any custom commands). You might be able to import all the commands you've created from your backup file.

Here's problem number two

Here's problem number two that I forgot to mention initially -- I cannot find where my user files are being stored on this machine! I have tried searching my hard drive to look for the username I have chosen and they do not seem to be in the same area where I have found them on previous machines I have used. Even doing a search for MyCmds.dat does not yield any results. Where could they be hiding??

First you need to go to enable Show Hidden Files and Folders. Go to Control Panel. Then open Folder Options. Click the View tab. Under Hidden files and folders, enable Show hidden files and folders.

In Windows XP, the path to my files is:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking9\Users\Martin Markoe

In Windows Vista:
C:\ProgramData\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking9\Users\Martin Markoe

DNS user file location

I have DNS 9.5 pro.
My files are here: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking9\Users\

Are you sure that directory path is not hidden?

Okay -- I got to my user

Okay -- I got to my user files -- thanks for the tip! So I switched back to the MyCmds.dat file from 6/18, and still have the same problem. So next I tried restoring my entire user file, but this still causes the same problem. So now I created a brand new user, went straight to the command browser without importing any files and STILL had it locking up on me. So it doesn't seem to be a user file corruption. VERY mysterious! Any other suggestions? The input has been useful so far, just not solving the problem yet...
