Post-Crash DNS Activation Problem
After having to switch to a new mobo, CPU and SATA-cloned HD following a mobo crash, DNS insists on re-activation every time I use it. But the re-activation doesn't take, so I have to do it every time.
BTW, I had to clone my old IDE drive to a new SATA drive because I couldn't get the new mobo to boot from the old IDE drive, so I understand from Chuck Runquist's posts that destroyed the validity of the activation keys, like those for Windows XP and DNS. XP re-activation went without a hitch, but there is still this glitch for DNS.
The first three times I asked for re-activation and was able to work normally, but the fourth time I said "remind me later" and began working. Shortly DNS shut down, and since then it won't complete loading and requires killing via the TaskManager.
When 9.5 asked for re-activation, it said I have 5 left -- I don't know what happened to the four missing activations, but I can probably do without them unless there is another disaster between now and DNS 10's appearance.
I don't want to do anything that might suck up any more of my remaining activations than the bare minimum, so: What to do?
TIA,
Bruce

That happened to me with one
That happened to me with one of Nuance's products (I think it was Omniport or something).
I e-mailed Nuance support, they gave me a telling off for not uninstalling in the proper way, and then gave me three new activations
Try it.

I think I would
I think I would uninstall/re-install DNS as it sounds too flaky (shutdown/kill via task manager). Maybe a bad install?
Any new software on that might interfere? Also what mobo/cpu did you put in?
This Sounds Like a Registry Error
This
sounds like a known registry error issue and our recommendation, as Skip
recommend, is to uninstall your software but this is only to gain back an
activation. We additionally recommend moving your user file to a safe location,
like your desktop, and using DNS9.5
Remover to remove every trace of NaturallySpeaking from your computer;
including the registry. Because this is the registry error, the easiest
solution is DNS 9.5 remover and then reinstall NaturallySpeaking. After
reinstalling DNS simply move your user profile back to its original location
and launch NaturallySpeaking. You will probably be prompted to run the Audio
Setup Wizard but you should only have to deal with the activation issue one
more time.

Thanks, all. Lunis'
Thanks, all. Lunis' suggestion worked except I think it still cost me an activation.
