How do you know what ppl (pool) files are being used? Is there a way to load/use specific ones?

I am having some problems with ViaVoice not recognizing single words consistently. As an example eight is sometimes returned as delete. I have a grammar file(bnf, fsg) that contains a lot of phrases with annotations. I started creating a dictionary using dictionary builder for the phrases. I have played and recorded most of the phrases and single words phonetical spellings in the dictionary. How do I know the pool file I created from the dictionary is being used?

I frequently have problems with words beginning with a vowel. Single words are sometimes very difficult to be recognised, and this is particularly so with vowel commencements. I get over this by putting such words in the middle of two words and then deleting the unwanted ones. It is all a matter of clear enunciation.

You can see these words in the Vocabulary Manager, and in the .ADD file which can be opened with an editor such as Word Pad, and making sure that you uncheck the "always using the selected programme to open this kind of file". The latest word you have added will be at the end. It is not alphabetical.

Quentin, Thanks. Can I

Quentin,

Thanks. Can I manually edit the .ADD file? Is the Vocabulary Manager an application (tool) that should be included in the ViaVoice install? I have not seen or found it anywhere. But I have found multiple references to it in the ViaVoice documentation.

The tools I have available from my Start -> Programs are Dictionary Builder, Enrollment Script Builder, Grammar Test and Topic Factory. There are also folders for command line applictions titled Grammar Utilities and Pool File Builder.

No. That file merely shows what has been added to the PCH, and other, files that are linked. You can use Vocabulary Manager to delete or train the custom vocabulary.

You will find it by clicking the SpeechBar and click on Tools \ Manage My Vocabulary. It is included in the install.

What version are you using? None of these are in the UK version of VV 10.5 Pro, other than the Topic installer. They may well be in the US version, and probably could be the same utilities that the UK version has by another name. If this is the case, then someone else with the US version would have to give you an explanation.

I am using ViaVoice SDK

I am using ViaVoice SDK Version 10.5.

What is the name of the application you start that has the speech bar?

I found an application

I found an application (ViaVoice Client Launcher) under the sample programs that lets me access all the tools. I found the vocabulary manager.

The VM has a option box (List dictation words only), when I check the box it shows me a much shorter list of words then was displayed when VM first opens.

Do you know how can I add words to the dictation words list? I am hoping that your ViaVoice Vocabulary Manager is the same as mine.

Other tools accessible from the "ViaVoice Client Launcher" are User Wizard, Audio Set up Wizard, Enrollment Wizard, Vocabulary Expander Wizard, ViaVoice Options, Dictation Macro Editor, User Migration Tool and Vocabulary And Topic Installer Tool.

I hae tried using the Vocabulary Expander Wizard, but it only added a couple of words that were not already on the main list.

Never heard of ViaVoice Client Launcher, or sample programs, in the standard VV 10.5 Pro. This must be in the US version. I suspect that ViaVoice Client Launcher is the same as my clicking the left side of the Speechbar.

You can add anything you want in Dictation Macros, from one word to pages of data.

To add to your Vocabulary Manager, go to User Options\ViaVoice Options\Dictation tab. Check Auto find new words and Improve my voice model boxes. When you dictate a new word, VV will ask you if you want to train that word. When you save a document, VV will come up with a menu to train unrecognised words. Check the words you want to train, and proceed to train them. Watch out not to train known words with starting capital letters or in uppercase, unless you want them. The new words will appear in Vocabulary Manager.

I have - Microphone On, Dictate To [Wordpad, Word, Directly into Application], Show Correction Window, Begin Reading, Audio Setup, User Options [ViaVoice Options, VoiceCentre Opyions], Tools [ Analyse My Voice, Analyse My Documents, Work with Dictation Macros, Manage My Vocabulary, Work with Navigation Macros, Find New Words, Help Me With Recognition Problems].

It will only add words to the custom dictionary (Vocabulary Manager) it does'nt know already.
