Question on v 9.5
Submitted by Andy W on Sat, 05/31/2008 - 16:18.
I installed v9.5 and registered it online. I set it up and was working like a charm. All of a sudden the program will no longer start up. It starts the process of loading the user files and then it just shuts off. The dragon icon and microphone icon are no longer in the system tray. If I reboot the machine the dragon icon will be returned to the system tray. If I have to I will uninstall and reinstall but I would rather not. Has anyone had similar problems? Any help would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Andy

Create A New User Profile
It sounds like your user
files are corrupted but usually when this happens NaturallySpeaking will
display an error. If NaturallySpeaking does display an error, it would help if
you copied it word for word and posted it on this forum. Without any additional
information we would have to recommend creating a new user. To save time, you
can skip training for the sake of this test. If it turns out that the new user
profile works, you might consider switching to your backup user profile in your
original user because there's an 80% chance that it will be intact. You'll find
a step-by-step on the process when you look up “switching to backup user” in

Lunis,
Thank you very much for your help. Although Dragon did not display an error, I went through the steps of repairing a corrupt user file and it seemed to work.

We are glad you were able to easily repair the user file. We suggest you make a backup copy of your user profile both on your primary hard disk and to another location. This other location can be an inexpensive USB thumb drive. This is very easy to do. Just click on the NaturallySpeaking menu on the Dragon bar. Select Manage Users. Then click the Advanced button and choose export. Browse to the locations you wish to save the user files and they will be saved after clicking OK. Should you ever need to use these backups, which you should make periodically when everything is working fine, just reversed the procedure and import them.
