possible to add to the spell mode vocabulary?

Is it possible to add anything to the spell mode vocabulary? Or, failing that, is there an easy way to make a very limited vocabulary which is basically the spell mode vocabulary plus a few things, and would it then be easy to switch to and from that vocabulary as easily as switching between spell mode and dictate mode?

I do an enormous amount of dictating on the UNIX command line, and for that, I really need a vocabulary which is mostly limited to the alphabet. But there are definitely features of dictate mode I wish I had available there -- the ability to say "new line" without causing, instead of "[pause] press enter key", or the ability to insert custom vocabulary words without a pause around them.

I am using NaturallySpeaking 9.5 professional on Windows XP.

I do not think you can

I do not think you can influence the spell mode vocabulary.

For doing customised keystrokes you can consider to use
unimacro.

The grammar _keystrokes is specifically designed for what you ask.

Unimacro is open source and comes with Natlink/Vocola, which includes a useful set of useful macro scripts and gives you the ability to write your own as well.

Unimacro "keystrokes" works well for spelling out words, but if you are properly set up, the native spell that box should work perfectly well most of the time.(Hint, dictate the letters in a sequence and not individually... seems to work better)

Stick with it and you will find SR can give you too, 98% plus accuracy.

Create UNIX Commands Rather Than a UNIX Vocabulary

Although NaturallySpeaking Pro supports
multiple vocabularies, you don't have the option of slipping into a
specialized vocabulary while correcting but if you want to undertake a major
project, you could create specialized commands, that could function as
one-shot vocabulary phrases or words with DNS Pro and make them Windows
specific to the NaturallySpeaking Spell That Correction Box. However, you
will probably find it to be a bit of a daunting task. Unfortunately
NaturallySpeaking no longer offers smaller vocabulary options unless you
create them from scratch or own a copy of KnowBrainer
2007
which includes a 50,000 word medium-sized vocabulary and a 2000 word
very small vocabulary. We mention this because your current vocabulary is
150,000 words.

Our patent pending approach to writing VerbalBasic (verbal
pseudo Visual Basic command code) is done exclusively with commands rather
than a specialized vocabulary. By creating specialized vocabulary commands
for UNIX scripts you could make them Application or even Window specific so
that you wouldn't have to worry about UNIX command code landing in an e-mail
or a document. We are not trying to sell you on anything but rather spit
balling to see if any of this gives you an idea. Because you're using DNS
Pro, you have a number of options.
