Extra space after opening quote if word corrected
Submitted by gzornenplat on Thu, 05/15/2008 - 20:35.
Lets say I say
open-quote there
and get
'their
manage to select 'their' and correct ot to 'there' I end up with
' there
(space after the quote)
How can I fix this, or is it unfixable?
Thanks,
Ian

Depends on what you mean by
Depends on what you mean by "unfixable"
When you are talking about these kinds of problems, it's important to specify the application in which they occur because different applications have different programming interfaces that affect how DNS behaves. For example, in this textbox I can't reproduce your problem.
In general there might be several workarounds for a given issue. In this case it could be that if you select the entire phrase:
"single quote their"
you won't get the unwanted space when you correct it. That's the sort of "workaround" that successful speech recognition users learn to breach the awkward gap between written and spoken language forms. There are more awkward ways to handle the problem, e.g., using speech controls to delete the unwanted space.
Of course, the unspoken possibility is that, as adumbrated elsewhere, you may have a damaged installation which interferes with the normal operation of DNS, but this is a common SR problem.
