DNS 7.3 Preferred dictation not dumped into new Outlook 2003 mail message.

Dear Members,

I have the following problem with DNS.

I have a client who is using DNS 7.3 Preferred within Microsoft Office 2003.
He has informed me that while trying to dictate in the body field of a mail message in Outlook 2003, no dictation is dumped into the body field, however his dictation is recognized by the results box.
The above problem occurs intermittently.

I have tried the following to resolve the issue.
1. Disabled the CTFMON.exe process. (Is it possible for this process to reinsert itself?)
2. Set outgoing mail to Rich Text.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Justin

"Disabled the CTFMON.exe

"Disabled the CTFMON.exe process."

Depends what you mean by disabled, I usually kill it using the task manager, and it can definitely reappear.

In my experience ctfmon.exe symptoms are that it will seem like Dragon is intermittently ignoring individual keystrokes, such as pageup or enter, regardless of what application you are using.

I have seen some strange stuff in Outlook where I dictate and the first phrase recognized ends up in an attachment that I recently opened (that is probably a whole other story though).

Sounds like your client needs to explain in a bit more detail what is meant by "intermittently", and try to find a pattern.

disabling CTFMON permanently

disabling CTFMON permanently has been covered in nodes 1052 and 1788. When you follow those instructions you should be clear of this issue.

Ctfmon.exe is not the problem

First, it is highly unlikely that ctfmon.exe has anything to do with this particular problem. Ctfmon.exe effects MSAA (Microsoft Active Accessibility). It has little or no effect on dictation problems.

Second, I provided a detailed explanation on the KnowBrainer forum:
