Conflict?
I Apologise if this is the wrong place to post this query. I am a brand-new member and could not find any instructions for using the forums.
I have been using a IBM ViaVoice 10 for some years now. It has developed some problems. For some little while I have been unable to dictate or paste in to yahoo mail. I do not have this problem with the other programs. (I have dictated most of this directly).
The other day I downloaded a program called cryptainer which caused the voice recognition software to crash. The manufacturers say that they have never experienced any hardware or software conflicts in the past. They advised me to uninstall and to re install their program. When I un installed the programme things went back to normal. When I re installed the voice recognition seemed to work for a short while and then crashed again.
Can anyone help please?
I have a a similar problem with a new ‘Integral’ password protected USB Flash drive. When it is connected to the computer the voice recognition program crashes.

FWIW, I'm not a VV user, but maybe an update to version 10.5 would be the best way to go.

You would know better than I, but never forget what Sarah Dippity said:

I have no answers to the Yahoo problem. I have heard that relatively recently there are problems with Yahoo, not merely with speech recognition, but also with copying and pasting.
Personally I have had no problems with it, and have dictated directly into Yahoo using VV 10.
I have noticed the odd new programme I have installed does affect ViaVoice and other programmes. In fact recently, my computer has slowed down, and ViaVoice has become very iffy. I suspect it may be the latest XP update causing problems, but I have not yet pinned it down.
My cure for this latter problem has been to reinstall a previous months XP image, and by process of elimination by the re-installation of the XP update and the other programmes I installed in the past month, I will pin it down. I have also noted a slowing up of the CPU (AMD Semperon), and I think it is on the way out. This hopefully will be solved with my purchase of a laptop with Intel Core 2 Duo 2 GHz, 800 MHz Bus speed, 2 GB Ram and 160 GB hard disk, XP Pro, which I expect in the next few days, but it will take at least a week of evenings to set it up (an absolute pain in the a***) .
In summary, there's no question that there are programmes which affect the operation of speech recognition.

Thanks. Desperate for a program to password protect files I tried 'TrueCrypt'today only downloading to a folder without running. This causes V V to crash when the correction window is open.
I removed the folder and restored to the previous config. but the problem persists.

No answer to this. I have never heard of this happening.
I can only suggest that you do a complete uninstall, including using Viaclean, and reinstall.
See http://www.speechcomputing.com/node/312 on how to do this correctly.

Conflict?
Thanks. When I have time I will try this. Incidentally I have had the identical problem with a program called truecrypt. The crash occurs when I open the correction window. I think I shall uninstall VV as per instructions, install cryptainer again and then reinstall VV and see if that works.
The only thing I am not sure about is preventing my antivirus etc starting on bootup.

Not a problem. I moved this to the correct forum and made it a forum topic instead of a comment.
