Can't create a user in DNS 9
Submitted by marou on Sat, 04/12/2008 - 00:57.
Hi,I just installed the DNS pro 9.51 in French but I can't prepare user for dictation. The prompt stops when it's time to read the 15 seconds text (every thing is grey). Can't read and can't go further. Is the problem with the mic or with the sound card?
Thanks!

You need to let us know more
You need to let us know more about what type microphone and is the sound card internal or is it USB based.
For starters, I would make sure the mike and sound card work together. You can do this using sound recorder (in XP it's Start/All Programs/Accessories/Entertainment). That should tell you if they are working by recording a short session and playing it back.
Second, I would make sure to select that soundcard/mike as the input in DNS and not another input.
Others may have more ideas when you tell us more about what you have!
Details
I'm working on a compaq presario V6000 laptop. The soundcard is the original one (Conexant high definition). The mike is "mic-in" type (not usb) and there's no problem using it with the XP recorder...
In DNS, I don't find anyplace to choose the sound card. There's only a list of input source ("source de dictée" in the french version) wich contains only the kind on mike or recorder....

At least we know they are working!

I don't do this a lot as I don't have to, but I seem to remember it's done when creating a user account. I think that DNS associates a particular sound source for each user. I don't have version 9.x so I'm unsure where it's at in that version.
Perhaps someone else will be able to direct you!
Change your Large Font Settings Back to Standard
Although we do not recommend integrated soundcards
or manufacturer microphones
this isn't your immediate problem. We believe the reason why the text stays gray
is because you can't visually see the Start button because it's off screen.
We suspect that you've changed your display resolution or more likely; changed
your default Windows font size from standard to large or extra large. Try
returning your display properties to their original default settings. After
you create your new user profile, you can reset your display settings.

Problem solved!
since I was already working with standard fonts, I raised the resolution ("point par pouce" in French) in the advenced proprieties of displaying. It worked. Thanks!
