Dictate without making a sound

This is a wireless neckband called an "Audeo". It's in the very beginning stages of development. It's likened to the very first S/R programs. Basically you think what you want to say and it reads it. Video at the site. Is it "Goodbye Noise" or what?
New Scientist - Audeo neckband
"A neckband that translates thought into speech by picking up nerve signals has been used to demonstrate a "voiceless" phone call for the first time."

Without knowing much about
Without knowing much about the technology, I would imagine its essentially SR with a different input source, i.e., throat muscles rather than speech. In other words, the back-end would be very much like the prevailing technology for SR using HMM modeling, etc. -- but pleases don't be misled into thinking I know what I'm talking about
Maybe someone who knows more can clarify.
I think it represents a wonderful extension of the technology!

When watching the video they
When watching the video they had I was thinking of it much like S/R combined with text-to-speech. There was a significant pause before a voice was heard and the voice sounded mechanical not the person's voice. So it probably has to recognize it first then vocalize it via text-to-speech.
Apparently this or similar technology has been in use for wheelchair control for those unable to do so otherwise. If I recall correctly they said the next place to put this tech would be for those with ALS to be able to speak on their own. That would really help them. I'd expect Stephen Hawking to be among the first to use this.
