DNS 8 Preferred
Hello,
I have been using DNS 5 pro untill yesterday. I was using it under Win XP and was very happy with the results.
But now I 've purchased DNS 8 Preferred (Dutch version). I tried an upgrade, so I wouldn't have to make a new user. Unfortunately that didn't work. The problem was (and still is) that commands like "go to sleep", "wake up" "go to end" and so on were/are not recognized. Not even in command mode. At best they appear like text. So I did a complete uninstall three times uptill now and still no go. This doesn't make me very happy.
So I am hoping that some of you may have some ideas about what the real problem is.
One more thing I have to mention is the fact that in order to use DNS 5 under Win XP, I had to install spchapi.exe (I think that's sapi4, but I don't know much about it really). Might that be the problem? And if so how can I fix it?
Hardware:
Asus K8N
Athlon 64 3000+
1024 MB ram
Plantronics DSP100
I hope someone can help. Thanks in advance.
Regards, Mike

DNS 8 Preferred - Dutch
If I understand your post correctly you attempted to upgrade a version 8 Preferred with a version 5 Professional (Dutch?).
On two counts this was likely to fail - DNS 5 users are not compatible with V 8 nor is Preferred compatible with Professional.
Even upgrading Professional 7 to Professional 8 we would recommend creating a new user to take advantage of the improved algorithms that appear in each new version. In fact creating a new user is extremely simple if you have your custom word list from a previous version and a collection of typical documents to analyse your writing style.
You don't say how you attempted to uninstall. ScanSoft recommend doing this via Add/Remove Programs. If this fails look at ScanSoft TechNote 4965 where there are instructions on how to use the "Remover" tool found at:
http://download.scansoft.com/naturallyspeaking/8/D...
I presume that this will work with the Dutch version of DNS 8.
Good Luck.

Dear Graham, Yes I actually
Dear Graham,
Yes I actually tried to upgrade from DNS 5 pro to Preferred V8 and I could have known that that was not going to work. I even feel a bit stupid now.
Anyway, I did an uninstall twice by using add/ remove programs and the third time I used DNS81remover. I created a new user after every new install, but it's still not working. And I still wonder if I am missing something in winXP, because of the spchapi.exe file I had to install for DNS 5Pro to work with windowsXP in my previous setup.
