A change in site access.

I changed the default number of comments per page from 90 to 10.
You can set your own comment parameters then click "Save Settings" and it will be saved for future use when you are logged in.
I changed this after reading the white paper from Scansoft called "Guidelines for Speech-Accessible HTML for Dragon NaturallySpeaking".
It says "Dragon NaturallySpeaking processes only the first 200 HTML elements on a page. Links beyond the first 200 elements cannot be reached by voice, and text areas beyond the first 200 elements cannot be dictated into." They limit this to allow faster processing of HTML elements.
So hopefully this will make the site a bit easier to use by voice. Comments appreciated.

Skip,
Don't like the new layout
In the general menu, it shows when there are new postings and you simply click on the "x new", and you were brought directly to the new postings.
This is not happening now with the new system, and when you click on "x new", it brings you to the original first posting, you then have to scroll down to "last" and click it, and then scroll down to find the latest postings through their dates and times. There is nothing to indicate the new ones, as previously.
I never had a problem finding the new postings using ViaVoice, no matter what the length of the thread was and equally I never had a problem with quoting or commenting.
Obviously the problem seems to lie with DNS.
On reading the article to which you referred, I come across the following which gives the workaround for the problem you quoted:
"Supporting Documents with Many HTML Elements
By default, Dragon NaturallySpeaking processes only the first 200 HTML elements on a page. Links beyond the first 200 elements cannot be reached by voice, and text areas beyond the first 200 elements cannot be dictated into. This restriction exists to limit the amount of time that Dragon NaturallySpeaking uses to process HTML elements, which it does every time the user begins speaking. You can increase this limit by editing the file options.ini, a user-specific file that resides by default in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ScanSoft\NaturallySpeaking8\Users\\current.
At the bottom of options.ini, add this line:
Number Of Enumerated Html Elements=n
where “n” is the maximim number of elements you are likely to present on one page. For example:
Number Of Enumerated Html Elements=500
If this setting causes a perceptible slowdown in Dragon NaturallySpeaking, your only option is to redesign the HTML document to reduce the number of HTML elements."
Therefore if anyone is having the problem of access of threads in excess of 200 elements, it would appear that the above workaround will solve that.
Please can we have it back as it was since I've never seen any complaints on the site

Sure. I can set the default
Sure. I can set the default number of postings back if it's being a pain.
I've now returned it to the previous setting of 90. There's also an option setting now of up to 300 comments per page! Just set it to that then click 'save settings' and that will be your own number of comments per page. Obviously if someone is having a slowdown they can set it to less comments per page to help speed it up.
Let me know how that is.
That's much better. I never
That's much better.
I never seen 90 postings in a thread
If a thread reach that length, it would be time to start a new one.
The old ways are best, and if it ain't broke, don't fix it
