UH HUH!!!! eMicrophones extensively tested and released the Philips 9600 recorder as the best recorder for speech recognition 7 months before KnowBrainer discovered it. We did not just let our customers figure out how to use it without reference. We included easy to follow illustrated instructions. These can be seen at:
http://www.emicrophones.com/download/Philips9600.pdf
I have not heard of technicians at Philips needing to use KnowBrainer's instructions and would like to know the name of the person at Philips. I would assume because the software for the recorder was developed with and comes with an interface to Dragon that the people at Philips would already know how to use it.

We certainly appreciate
We certainly appreciate your willingness to
test digital recorders every 12 to 18 months but it doesn't really compare to
selling, supporting and training digital recorder end-uses for over a decade.
The original DSS format was introduced to the Olympus DS-3000 and has been
around for over 7 years. From a
NaturallySpeaking transcription perspective, the new DS2 format is only a
marginal improvement over the original DSS format that we have been selling
to customers for the past 7 years.
You've only been selling digital recorders professionally for a few
months.
It would be unprofessional and unethical
for us to list anyone's name from Philips and we are surprised that you would
request this breach of etiquette. Our training guide is being used by
in-house sales; not development. Our training
guide is also in use at Smoltz Distributing (a major distributor and repair
center for Olympus). One of the reasons why we created our user guide was to counterman
your user guide which recommended using the older DSS file format (that you
changed after we pointed out the error) and your other recommendation which
is to use the middle setting on the recorder for dictation purposes. You're the only one we know of that
recommends using a setting that was clearly designed for interviews (2 to 3
feet) for dictation purposes. Then you recommend additionally purchasing a
noise canceling microphone which is all but required on this setting. A noise canceling microphone is completely
unnecessary when you use the recorder correctly which is in close mic mode
(between 2 and 6 inches). We agree
that a high-end microphone will marginally increase accuracy but in close mic
mode, you won't see an improvement in noise canceling because when you use
any digital recorder properly, environmental sounds are canceled out
electronically. Close mic electronic
noise cancellation has been around for nearly a decade.
