DragonDictate for the speech impaired
Submitted by Todd Kermit on Thu, 10/18/2007 - 07:17.
I know of an individual with multiple sclerosis who wishes to use speech recognition. Unfortunately, due to his condition, his speech is somewhat slurred. Because of this, he was unsuccessful with Dragon NaturallySpeaking. I understand that DragonDictate works better (in terms of recognition rate) than NaturallySpeaking for people with such speech patterns. I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has experience with DragonDictate for the speech impaired.
Thank you.
Todd

Todd,
DragonDictate has been discontinued now for over 10 years. It will be very difficult to obtain a copy because it is no longer sold or supported by Nuance. Support for DragonDictate was discontinued while the Dragon products were still under the auspices of Dragon Systems and just shortly after Dragon Systems was acquired by L&H.
Even if you are able to find a copy, you need to be aware of the fact that:
1. There is no support for this except possibly on one of the speech recognition forums, or from someone who is still currently using it.
2. There are certain compatibility issues with Windows XP. If I'm not mistaken, you may be able to run DragonDictate under Windows XP in compatibility mode. Nevertheless, DragonDictate was originally developed for MS-DOS and later ported to Windows 95/98. Unfortunately, I don't have access to the system requirements or specifications for installing and using DragonDictate re: operating systems because it was discontinued in the middle of my tenure at L&H and just after the acquisition of Dragon Systems by L&H. Hopefully, someone on this forum may be able to enlighten you as to any of the current possibilities for obtaining a copy and/or installing/using such. Nevertheless, it is no longer sold or supported.
This is not to discourage you from making the attempt to locate and implement a copy of DragonDictate for the individual to whom you are referring in your post. Nevertheless, I think you need to be aware of the fact that it won't be an easy process if it is possible at all given the age of the product and the system requirements limitations.
