Caption MIC with ViaVoice Errors.
Hello again all.
Still have lots of questions and am hoping to get more help from everyone here.
Over the past couple weeks Ive been reading the forums intently and have found answers to alot of my questions here.
once again since my other post got locked out (due to an apparent "scuffle" started over which system to use
..)
I work for a company that uses Ultechs Caption Mic on top of viavoice, and I believe Floridagal put it best in her thread on why some have no choice but to use Viavoice. We here at our company are no exception, our company chose the program to use and we just continue to use it as best we can. So Im hoping to get any information I can as we progress.
Anyway, My question this time is a specific error message, we are using the latest version of VV and CaptionMic.
One of our users recently has been getting a certain error Message, only when he corrects a word, without revoicing the word (he did not revoice it because he felt he said the word right and as he would always say it, and so did not revoice it so the computer would learn it the way he said it.)
Not always, but every now and again, He will recieve this error message.
"Recognition engine is not in the proper mode to accept this request" Not sure if anyone else has encountered this or if anyone can help me. But this is really all the information I have on the error so far.
As Ive gathered has happened to him only (so far), it happens when he corrects a word but does not revoice it(not always but sometimes) and its not just a certain word.
Any help that could be given I would greatly appreciate Thanks again

I've never seen this message, but I have frequently been asked to revoice a word for no reason whatsoever. When it asks, I revoice even though the word should be well recognised, and in fact plays back correctly.
Clearly ViaVoice would not ask you to revoice a word unless it wanted it, possibly because there could be some corruption in the voice files, and revoicing it would correct it.
I have not revoiced where a word might be similar to other words with the same pronunciation, but the other uses of the similar word might be more frequently used. (It happened to me today, but I just cannot think what the word was!)

I understand what your
I understand what your saying... however Caption Mic doesent really work like that, everytime you type what the word was supposed to be into the caption window, it asks you to revoice it regardless. Even if you are saying it the way you always say it and want the computer to learn it.
For instance, In my first days with the System 'Thank' was constantly being interpreted as "Think" so I simply typed Thank into the correction window (because it was not one of the words in the list) and it asked me to revoice it, i clicked no because i knew this is how i always say the word and did not mess up the word in any way. After a few times of doing this the computer now recognizes it as Thank whenever I say it. We also use alot of words in our broadcast everyday that normally wouldnt be considered "english" words...not a different language...but sometimes made up words all together....so its a constant fight to stay up to date and keep the Program informed as to what new word we need to add each day.
I was wondering if anyone had seen this error message but i was afraid it would be rare...
We have tried to contact ultech, they are a bit slow in responses (and sometimes answers)
So far this forum has been my best venue for answers
Is this a Caption Mic or
Is this a Caption Mic or ViaVoice problem?
What I was referring to was the Correction Window.
Surely it is ViaVoice, and not Caption Mic, that mis-recognises the word, and the correction is done through the ViaVoice Correction Window?
ViaVoice only learns new words through the Correction Window, or the voice model improver which comes up when you are saving a file, for example in Word.

Its through Caption MIC We
Its through Caption MIC
We use the correction window to the right of the caption are.

Unless this correction window is linked to ViaVoice so that the corrections go into the user's correction files, and effectively works as if you use the ViaVoice Correction Window I would think it unlikely that ViaVoice would recognise corrections made.
Is it possible to have the ViaVoice Correction Window open at the same time? If so, why not try out the corrections in the ViaVoice correction window rather than the Caption MIC one.
I have had a look at how Caption MIC is based, and it uses the Direct Dictation facility of ViaVoice. This means that the ViaVoice Correction Window should be available, even though Caption MIC appears to have its own correction window. Since Caption MIC would not appear to have its own user files, but apparently relies on the ViaVoice user files, there must be some link between the Caption MIC correction window and the ViaVoice one. In your case there must be a breakdown in communication. Have you checked it out with the manufacturers of Caption MIC?
Quentin
Havent checked that
Havent checked that connection out with them yet, but it gives me some Ideas, I will toy around and see what I can come up with.
I am not computer illiterate but when it comes to the new system of caption Mic it is new to me.
Unfourantly from my position I can do little more then try to fix the problems, the company decides what we use and decides when we talk to the programmers over at CaptionMic, but neither the company or the programmers are really helpful, In fact theres been a few times when our team would bring up a problem or a solution to one, and there response would be nothing short of surprise, as in, "I didnt know that would work"....
But thank you for the idea's Ill give editing within VV a try.
Thanks again
