Natlink with IronPython?
Submitted by reckoner on Wed, 08/22/2007 - 12:17.
Does anybody know if natlink will work with IronPython? I'm thinking that it would be easier to get access to more Windows resources through the embedded NET components included in IronPython.

Hm. Looks like no one has tried this yet. I wonder if IronPython would also have a smaller resource need if .NET is already installed.

Hello, I am a novice in .NET (and want to remain so
) and IronPython.
But I'm curious what the wishes and the supposed improvements could be.
What Windows services are wanted that are not present at the moment, and how big (relevant) are the resources that python itself takes in the whole speech recognition/natlink/natpython etc business.

I only run .NET begrudgingly. I currently have no version of Python installed either.
My situation is that I'm memory locked (limited to 512MB RAM) until I can replace the motherboard and processor.
I do remember installing a version of Python that was recommended (Active Python?) with Natlink a long time ago. I seem to recall it required a lot of RAM to run. That was long ago so it may have changed since then.
I'd imagine that running DNS, Python, Natlink, Vocola, Unimacro, KnowBrainer and VoiceTeach at once (if possible) would require a lot RAM all by themselves. That poor processor would be busy if not confused. (grin)
(Note this is said tongue-in-cheek and not as fact)
It would be interesting to have a chart of memory and resource usage for each of the programs mentioned above. Has anyone ever seen such?

Hi Skip,
As far as I experience python is not the memory/resources eater. NatSpeak itself is...
VoiceCode needs also a lot.
But with 512 Mb all add-ons will present difficulties. Even NatSpeak itself.
I would think python/natlink/unimacro are the most humble additions in this story.
Hope you have the (financial) resources to get more memory first.
But a chart like you ask for would be good information.
Grin too, Quintijn
I've thought about it, it
I've thought about it, it would be quite a powerfull combo.
The hard part is writting a DNS Application Extention in .Net I've tried, and could never get it to not crash.
