Dragon 9.5, Vocola and Vista.
Submitted by kralcekim on Mon, 06/11/2007 - 05:24.
An acquaintance is having problems getting Vocola to run with 9.5 preferred and Vista. He is thinking of upgrading to professioal, but I feel that the problem is between Vocola and Vista not Vocola and Dragon. Does anybody have any experience with this combination?
TIA

Mike,
I would guess that this is a Vista compatibility issue relative to Vocola. Upgrading to Professional is unlikely to resolve the issue, unless the purpose of upgrading to Professional is to use the DNS scripting. If Vocola has a problem with Windows Vista (compatibility), upgrading to Professional will not change this.
On the other hand, have they tried to set Vocola to run in compatibility mode under Windows Vista? This usually works in resolving Vista compatibility issues for most applications. On the other hand, it may be difficult to set this up to run in compatibility mode. Not having Vocola and not using it, even though I understand it, I can't be certain.

Hi, I too am having trouble
Hi,
I too am having trouble is getting Vocola to install on Vista. The problem seems to be that the version of NEtFramework that comes with Vista is not compatible with the NatLink.msi that is currently available and that ran no problems under XP.
I have searched extensively on the Internet for a workaround for this problem but cannot find anything and it is very frustrating as I depended on Vocola for my productivity.
Any suggestions about how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your assistance.
Paul Rankin.
I have upgraded to version
I have upgraded to version Dragon 9.5 professional on Windows XP Pro and the natlink installer doesn't work for me in this case either. It doesn't recognize the new version of dragon that is installed.
Therefore, it's certainly not about preferred versus professional, but rather with the natlink installer which probably needs to be updated.
If you are unable to resolve
If you are unable to resolve running Vocola in Vista, it would be considerably less expensive to add KnowBrainer 2006 as opposed to upgrading to the professional version of NaturallySpeaking. KnowBrainer also includes over 10,000 prefab commands and a Command Browser which will allow you to edit, delete, activate and deactivate commands. You can even create commands by voice (better known as VerbalBasic) .

Also having problems with Vista/DNS 9.5/Vocola
I'm trying to run Natlink/Vocola on Windows Vista Business with ActiveState ActivePython 2.3.4 and DNS 9.5. The installation appears to have gone successfully, but when I start up DNS, I get the following error message. (I have posted this on NatPython also but received no response):
Error loading _vocola_main from C:\PROGRA~1\NatLink\macrosystem\_vocola_main.py
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "C:\PROGRA~1\NatLink\macrosystem\core\natlinkmain.py", line 141, in loadFile
imp.load_module(modName,fndFile,fndName,fndDesc)
File "C:\PROGRA~1\NatLink\macrosystem\_vocola_main.py", line 48, in ?
import simpscrp
ImportError: DLL load failed: The specified module could not be found.
I am greatly confused as to why this error is occurring (I did a thorough search for possible solutions on Google). The file simpscrp.pyd exists in the folder C:\Program Files\NatLink\Vocola\Exec\2.3, as expected. Additionally, I added a statement to print out the Python path (sys.path) immediately before the "import simpscrp" statement, which gave:
['C:\\Windows\\system32\\python23.zip', 'C:\\PROGRA~1\\NatLink\\macrosystem', 'C:\\PROGRA~1\\NatLink\\macrosystem\\core', 'C:\\Python23\\Lib', 'C:\\Python23\\DLLs', 'C:\\Python23\\Lib\\lib-tk', 'C:\\PROGRA~1\\Nuance\\NATURA~1\\Program', 'C:\\Python23', 'C:\\Python23\\lib\\site-packages', 'C:\\Python23\\lib\\site-packages\\win32', 'C:\\Python23\\lib\\site-packages\\win32\\lib', 'C:\\Python23\\lib\\site-packages\\Pythonwin', 'C:\\PROGRA~1\\NatLink\\Vocola\\Exec\\2.3']
Everything appears normal to me, yet I'm getting the "ImportError" message. Does anybody have a suggestion as to what might be the problem? Any help is greatly appreciated. Cheers,
Peter
