A local church has a DJ system that's being driven by an eMachine T1842 computer using an E-MU® 0404 PCI Digital Audio System card which drives a Carvin amp.
The problem is that I'm hearing pretty loud bus noise from the eMachine.
What would be your suggestions to rid this system of the whining noise in the system's speakers?
I thought this might be a good exercise away from SR, but that we might also learn how to get our computers quieter from the existing bus noise that they might have.
Let the ideas flow!
My first one is a custom computer vice a production line version.
I might have also gone with a USB sound card instead of a PCI card.
Take it from there, or start over... whatever you think!

Different sound card would
Different sound card would be something to try if you had several sitting around. But the E-MU is pretty "pro", so if its humming then almost anything else in the box probably would pick up noise too.
So USB (or FireWire) soundcard is the most practical alternative -- you can get pro versions nowadays, but you probably don't need that. I think Creative has an under $100 model that would probably work. Here's a respectable $80 M-Audio unit from an outfit that's a pleasure to work with:
