Upgrade partially complete

The upgrade is partially complete. There are a LOT of items you won't find for a bit on here as I have to reinstall and configure them. This took a lot longer than I thought it would (so far about 7 hours) with more to come.
Let me know how well it's all working, at least what's here anyway.
Oh. The Font Size is now variable just keep clicking larger or smaller and it will keep growing or shrinking. I think there are 6 sizes in all on it.

I tried using the search function, found under "user search", to search for content. It returned no content even for a term such as "vocola".
Have not tried using it before the upgrade, so don't know if this is a new problem not.

I've since removed this function as it wasn't working properly in this version.
I may implement something like this later, but it's not a priority for me.

The Larger Font/Smaller Font do not work for me.
As it happens I used Ctrl & the mouse scroller work well for me.

PS. I use the search function at the top right of the page, and when I typed in Vocola it came up with entries from all over the place, including Speech Computing.

Not sure what to tell you about the font size. It's only a javascript program to do such. Maybe something is messing with javascript on your end??
There are a LOT of changes in this upgrade. Probably the most significant is site security. Another is when using the rich text editor the entry area is re-sizable by the user (text entry window lower right corner grab and drag). Another is speed. This one is supposed to be faster than the last one. Another is a better 'engine' to produce the theme you see for the pages. There's a lot more, but I don't remember all of them.
Another really big update (for me) is when I'm maintaining the site, I can stop access to the site until I'm done. It always made me nervous changing things with live usage occurring. Now I have a way to deal with it.
Yes. Previews are now in color. I guess that's to help read it or something.
This is really an interim update. There will be another one in a while that will bring us completely current. I have a lot of changes to make before we go there however.

With IE6 I can increase the font size on the "recent posts" page, on the other pages I tried so far nothing happens, in fact when I click an error message appears in the bottom left-hand corner.

It does seem a bit erratic at times. I can't figure out what the problem is unless it's network delays. It's a javascript that is loaded from the site to the local machine to do that.
I've verified it working on IE7, Firefox 2.0.0.3 and Opera 9.02 - no longer have IE6 to test it.

I am getting it in Italian (same thing happening this evening as well), but the error would seem to be "Page Cannot Be Displayed" in English and a brief look at some forums suggests it is a java problem. Does that make sense?

Does make sense because its a Javascript. In Firefox put your cursor over it and look at the lower left-most corner of your screen.
PS: "Larger Font-Smaller Font" stopped working again. To avoid getting "blacklisted"* again, I promise I won't report on this matter anymore unless specifically requested
*An apparent temporary side-effect of the upgrade resulted in my being formally "blacklisted" -- I know its happened before, but I've never been officially notified! I consider Skip's approach to be a much more civil form of ostracism

I may have solved the font size problems. I noticed in the log entries that the script wasn't always found. I entered the direct path to it and it seems to work in the places you mention above.
Let me know if that fixed your error!

You had to ask
If you click "Larger Font-Smaller Font", that area expands/shrinks so much that the cursor is no longer over the "Larger Font-Smaller Font" area. Gotta move the cursor to get back over it! This could affect cursor-position scripts
But, yeah, I guess you HAD to ask

More important is the question of whether it should be fixed. As I suggested, even I consider it a frivolous problem.

One thing that would be a
One thing that would be a convenience to my style of browsing, but not necessarily that of others, would be a design that keeps the "recent posts" link in view at all times regardless of how much you scroll or how you arrange your view order.
I click off the "recent posts" page and then want to return there so that my "new" notices are up-to-date and I can quickly see where to go next. As it is, once I scroll down to read all the new posts I've lost sight of the "recent posts" and have to return to the top of the topic page, even though I've got new posts arranged on top.
Alternatively, if there's a way to do that with the current design, that might shut me up.

I'll have to see what I can come up with... if anything. I did place the "view recent posts" such that it's at the bottom of each message thread vice the end of the pages. Not sure how to get it otherwise without frames or something similar.
Yeah, "frames" are still bad
Yeah, "frames" are still bad for SR users, aren't they? In which case it would make a lot more sense for me to go on being slightly inconvenienced.

The thought occurred to me of a macro on your end to place you at this link: http://www.speechcomputing.com/tracker as that's the 'recent posts' address on here.

I see one problem that didn't exist with the previous program. This one doesn't seem to create links to URLs that are entered in posts and replies. Any reason for this?
In addition, it would be very nice if there were paid an easy way to add screen captures and images. If this can be done using richtext, how? And if not, is this something you can add. It would make doing some support responses a lot easier.

I've noticed the URL > link problem. I am sure it was a module that I had added and I thought I had all of them included. I'll have to check again to see what I've missed.
As to the pictures, yes there are ways that can be installed to add them. I may not implement them immediately because we will be upgrading again pretty soon. The only way I would want to do it now is if there's an upgrade path for the same module later - sometimes they are for only one version and not migrated.

Fixed. There is one update on this. I don't remember the old one trimming URLs. This one will trim URL length so that it's never more than x characters. It's adjustable and is set to 72 or 75... don't remember now.

Whinge of the day: Seems to me that in erstwhile times a logged-in user could click on the "new" and be carried to the most recent of the new posts in a topic. Nowadays the "new" is just a bright red piece of text. Maybe that function has been embedded in the topic title itself?

What's now the word 'new' in red, used to be an asterisk in reddish-orange. The '1 new' in the replies column is what takes you to the first new comment in that thread.
Clicking on the topic title takes you to the top of the topic (original post).

Personally, I have had no problems whatsoever with the improvements. They all seem to be extremely logical and intuitive, and are an improvement. In fact, I would go so far as to say that this website must be one of the easiest to navigate, particularly when looking for old posts.
As regards a macro for going back to Recent Posts, in Firefox, I simply bookmarked the page, put it on my toolbar and created a macro to click on it. Therefore if I simply say "Recent Posts ", the mouse clicks the bookmark and up it comes.
Incidentally, Firefox now has an a IE tab, so that when I want to update Windows, I do not have to open Internet Explorer, but simply click on the tab. (I do not like the automatic updates. )
