SpinVox: speech recognition over a cellphone--completely untrained
Submitted by snsok on Fri, 05/25/2007 - 18:57.
I read about this in the WSJ and signed up. SpinVox (www.spinvox.com) offers two services over your cellphone.
One service is the ability to dial into their company with your cellphone, speak a memo, and have the memo sent back to your email in about 1-2 min as transcribed text.
The other is to have your cellphone voicemail forwarded to them. It's then transcribed by speechrecognition and emailed back to your e-mailbox.
Consider the fidelity of cellphones and the absolute lack of training, the accuracy is remarkable. It's nothing like Dragon, of course, but still surprising, considering everything.
It's all free for now.

Also free for now.
The SR accuracy is very good. There is a brief lag after speaking a message until it comes back to your e-mail. Sometimes I wonder if there is a little person at the other end typing as fast as they can.
I might try SpinVox, I hate calling in to check my voicemail.
My new cellphone also has very good SR for dialing numbers. You can also use SR speaking one word at a time to send a text message.
SpinVox has still not set up
SpinVox has still not set up a voicemail account for me. Apparently being featured in the Wall St J brought them some business. They said to be patient...
