Speechbar.exe and ModName: vtcommon.dll

Hi Friends,
I live in Japan.
I have installed Via Voice 10 on to my computer.
Operating system is Window XP SP2.
The anti virus; firewall is off.
I have no other anti virus program in my computer.

I tried to open Via Voice but it says error which is as follow:
IBM ViaVoice for Windows
has encountered a problem and needs to close.
The probelm is: Error signature
AppName: speechbar.exe
AppVer ModName: vtcommon.dll

I would appreciate if you can tell me how to solve this problem and make my
Via Voice 10 works.

Try a complete re-installation.

If that doesn't resolve the problem, then I would suggest a complete clean reinstall.

You do not say whether you have been using VV before, and have existing voice files. If you have, make a back up of the voice files.

First of all have a look at these four :

You will see that I have detailed how to do a completely clean install.

Not having looked at these for some time, I cannot recall whether I mentioned that you should use a registry cleaner, such as Cclean or RegScrub, to make sure that everything relating to VV has been cleared out.

Then do you your reinstall. When it has finished, do not start it straightaway. If you have the existing speech files from the previous version, copy and paste it into Documents and Settings \ Application Data \ IBM \ ViaVoice \ Users \. Then go to Control Panel \ IBM ViaVoice Options, in the top drop-down box, scroll and find your existing user, and apply. Go through all the tabs and complete your settings.

If you still encounter problems, please report on this site.

I use Via Voice on Mac OS 10.4.
Not a problem. It does not work on intel Duo Core.

I would like to try on Via Voice Pro US for Windows
for I heard it is more accurate.

I do not know if the speech

I do not know if the speech files that you use on your Mac will migrate to Windows. You could try and see. If it does not work, then you'll have to train in a new user.

The speech bar is the central control of ViaVoice, and it should be the same on the Mac. It is the toolbar that appears at the top your screen with a microphone, and the messages, and accesses the ViaVoice menus.

No; I do not use Mac's ViaVoice user data for Windows.

I am using ViaVoice Pro US 10 Edition's User data which I have had saved it on a different folder on my laptop.

I have read extensively about your advice and suggestions and I am still trying to get
my ViaVoice working on my Windows. My whole idea or purpose is to try speech recognition from a
different platform like Windows. I am a strong believer in speech recognition and its technology.

One more naive thing; I do not have Office Word 2002 or 2003 in Navigation Macro Center in
my installation.
I only have Office 2000 and WordXP,Word Pro 9.5. Are these causing the speechbar errors?

I do really want to make ViaVoice 10 works on my laptop.
As I mentioned earlier, the OS is Windows XP Pro SP2.

Joey, I cannot follow this. Where has this user data come from? Is this your current initial training or a previous training?

These should not cause any problems with the installation.

It is obvious that you have VV 10 and not 10.5. When and where did you get this programme? If it is a recent purchase, then it should be 10.5. What are the copyright dates shown on the CD? Unfortunately for some odd reason, Nuance does not put 10.5 on the label.

Now I am not clear as to what your current problem is.

I've not found any problem

I've not found any problem with the speechbar in ViaVoice Pro 10.
Could the speechbar error be because I have not completely finished
voice dictation to analyse my speech. But then, it says click Finish to begin using ViaVoice.
I thought it was OK to start using it. Funny thing about this ViaVoice Pro 10.

Your advice would be appreciated.
