Viavoice 10.5 and medical vocabulary from VVC 10
Submitted by susan daum on Wed, 07/06/2005 - 16:19.
Dear Group:
This is my first post since all the changes. Does anyone have experience with the installation of medical vocabulary from Via Voice 10 on top of Viavoice 10.5 ? Will it keep the correct dll's and other parts of Viavoice 10.5 when it is installed?
I'm trying to get Scansoft to sell me the Medical Vacabulary, at this point. Thanks for your help, as always.

Viavoice 10.5 and medical vocabulary from VVC 10
Susan,
Do a complete backup of VV 10, and export your dictation and navigation macros to a safe place, and back-up your voice files and Medical Dictionary.
Then install VV 10.5, set it up in the usual way, import your medical dictionary as you did before, and see if it works.
If it does not work, the worse that happens is that you uninstall VV 10.5, to a ViaClean, and reinstall VV 10 and your Medical Dictionary, and after setting up your audio and etc. , import. the navigation and dictation macros, and you should be back to where you were.

I have never had vv10 on my computer -- bought it, but couldn't install it. Now they've sent me 10.5, and I've written to them for the medical vocabulary for VV10 (since the old Medical Vocabulary I have is from Viavoice gold, or millenium. Ive been using VVc 9.5 (patched 9 with this old medical vocabulary) So I'll just wait until I install 10.5, and see if it works. In the past, with the old medical vocabulary, I believe you had to reinistall VV right on top of the prior installation after you installed the medical vocabulary, because it contained old dlls. I was wondering if this will be the case with VVc 10.5 + medical vocabulary for VV10.5.. Wait and see, I guess.

Medical Vocabularies for ViaVoice 10.5
I am an IBM Certified Solutions Expert - ViaVoice and have been a SR dealer (VAR) for 10 years now. ScanSoft does not offer the IBM Medical ILM (Vocabulary) for the Windows version of ViaVoice. I still have several of these in stock. However, a better answer is that I have 38 differnt medical specialty vocabularies available. These were built using tools that IBM provided to some business partners. Look at www.crown1.com or call me at 800-715-4227 for more information.

I haven't tried installing it over the 10.5 version, but it should work.

How I got on with medical vocabulary: I purchased it from a site recommended by Scansoft. There are no links by Scansoft to the updated medical vocabulary on their site. I emailed them to get the information.
It installed fine on the new G40 (retread) IBM think pad, but I can't dictate because there's something wrong with the sound card. I'm still working on that with IBM -- so the final outcome with be reported later. Thanks for your interest. Susan Daum
ViaVoice General Medical Vocabulary
Mike,
I've been using using VV 10.5 and have a large vocabulary of added medical words of my own. If I get the general medical vocabulary will I be able to keep the added words, macros and templates I already have?

Medical Vocabularies for ViaVoice 10.5
Geo, The IBM Medical Vocabulary for ViaVoice has not been upgraded in almost 6 years. It does work, but remember you will only have the 25,000 words in it and only a few of those are "general words". Vocabularies in the form of topics work on top of the 200,000 word general vocabulary that comes with ViaVoice 10.5. I have these topic vocabularies for 38 different medical specialties. This gives you 230,000 +- active words. Your added words, macros and templates will still be available, but backup your voice model for safety before you start.
