Has anyone had any luck installing on Windows Vista?
If so how did you do it?

Are you talking about installing Dragon NaturallySpeaking on Vista? If so, there is an update 9.5 but it is only good for Dragon NaturallySpeaking preferred conditions. The professional editions will not have the update for approximately 40 days.

Sorry, I was asking about

Sorry, I was asking about installing ViaVoice on Vista.

Thanks,

This is highly doubtful to work.

Chris, When I asked this

Chris,

When I asked this of Rob Chambers on another group, he seemed to be under the impression that there would be no problem.

I ran the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor from Microsoft, that checks computers for Vista compatibility installation, and VV was not one of the incompatible programs.

KnowBrainer made the comment in another recent thread that ViaVoice is not being upgraded to work in Vista. For the life of me I cannot find his comments, and I just cannot recall which thread it was. Have a look at where there is comments about ViaVoice .

As yet I have not found a guinea pig with a Vista machine on whom I could try installing VV.

I posed the question that you did, but so far with no response.

However I am due to receive a copy of the Vista installation disc (compliments of Microsoft) in the next week or so, and I may install it as soon as I have backed up my entire XP, and increase the partition size to accommodate Vista. However time, and reluctance to change, is my main constraint. From what I have seen of Vista, it really does not offer anything that I want over what is in XP.

The following is an extract

The following is an extract from a response by Chuck Runquist on the KnowBrainer Forum:

"... there will be no updates to Windows Vista for previous versions of DNS or ViaVoice 10.5. In essence, it appears that ViaVoice is dead with regard to Windows Vista and that there is no intention of making it Vista compatible. Currently, ViaVoice 10.5 is absolutely not Windows Vista compatible."

If you look at the Nuance Vista compatibility site under ViaVoice you find:

"Your version will not be updated to be Windows Vista compatible. We recommend upgrading to the following product for Windows Vista compatibility:"
Followed by an offer to upgrade to NaturallySpeaking.

Of course Nuance is going to state this. It has become quite obvious that they're not interested in selling ViaVoice and in fact want to kill it. Equally KnowBrainer wants to sell his product with DNS, and hopes to get ViaVoice users over to his side.

However this statement quoted by Graham has been made without any trial results. All that has been said is that ViaVoice would not be updated. No one has stated it does not work in Vista based on trials.

If pre-XP earlier versions of ViaVoice work in XP, why would they not work in Vista?

I would suggest that all the forum writers would refrain from killing off ViaVoice until this question is absolutely proven based on fact and not innuendo.

Quentin, While I wish you

Quentin,

While I wish you well, I have one request. Please get some sort of video capture of your attempts to install ViaVoice on Windows Vista, and share it here!

Seriously, ViaVoice won't install on Windows Vista because it won't recognize the operating system.

That remains to be proved Smiling
