DNS 9 - Have to unplug mic to activate program

Hi,

I'm using Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9.10.000.141 SP1 on Windows XP SP2 machines both at home and at work. I have both copies set for the microphone to be asleep on startup. At work, the "Wake up!" command works fine; at home, I have to unplug and re-plug the microphone jack before DNS recognizes me, then everything is fine. No big deal, but... any ideas?

For people using Dragon on multiple computers we recommend using a microphone connected to any USB sound pod (a sound card that connects through the USB port). This assures shoe of consistent audio input and removes any variables in terms of the microphone and sound card. I do believe you probably have a timing issue with the sound card on your work computer.

The simplest way around the problem is also what I highly recommend before any dictations session. That is, you should run the Audio Setup Wizard. This does several things. It takes into account the quality of your voice which can change over the course of the day. It also accounts for the level of internal electronic noise and ambience environmental noise. Probably more importantly, it puts you into what I call dictation mode. This means it prepares you psychologically to enunciate clearly and speak in phrases.

At one time I had a similar problem with my computer/sound card/microphone. Installing the latest driver for the sound card took care of the problem for me.
