Quentin, Nothing special
Quentin,
Nothing special here. This has been known for awhile. These are not even going to be initially true quad core systems. The first releases are going to be based on dual processors each having dual core CPUs. AMD won't be releasing their true quad core processors until late in 2007, and these will still be based on the 65 nm chips.
Mid-2007 Intel will be releasing their new true quad core processors based on the new 45 nm chip technology and using the Core2 Duo processors and instruction sets with larger L2 cache.
Regardless, I've had the opportunity to test DNS 9 on the new quad core servers from Intel, which are not the ones that will be released for desktops and laptops mid-2007. However, DNS does not perform any better on these systems than it does on the Core2 Duo's, and won't until all applications are designed to take advantage of multicore systems.

Chuck,
I knew someone would know something about it.
Does DNS run faster on the Core2 Duos than on the P 4's or the AMD equivalents?

Faster is relative. Display of text is instantaneous on the Core2 Duo's. There is between a half and a second delay on the P4's and the AMD equivalents.
This is because of the improvements in parallel processing in the Core2 Duo's. These systems make more efficient use of total L2 cache and memory, as well as using the dual cores more efficiently. It's basically the technology advances in the Core2 Duo's. Besides being more efficient, they also run cooler. My Core2 Duo Extreme Edition runs on a normal cooling fan at about 35 to 38°C vs. 52 to 54°C on the P4 dual cores and the AMD dual cores.

Then I doubt it would make much difference to me.
With my AMD Semperon 1.8 Mhz, 128 Kb L2 cache, ViaVoice dictation appears on screen within half a second, but DNS takes somewhat longer (I have never timed this). In any case, one has to allow a certain amount of thinking time, allow for the ers and ums
